Lovely card in the post today! 💌

I’m really bad at taking progress photos and videos, but Poppy’s story is one I really wanted to share.

Poppy is a wire-haired Dachshund who suffered IVDD (a “slipped disc”) in December and underwent surgery. Sadly, she suffered a second disc episode in March and required another surgery.

When she first came to me after her second surgery, she had some use of her back legs but needed a sling for support or she would stagger and fall over. She had very little awareness of her left hindlimb, regularly tripping over it or dragging it, and her posture was completely hunched.

Over the following six months, Poppy had intensive physiotherapy initially, which was gradually spaced out as she improved. She made a fantastic recovery, returning to her usual level of activity with some sensible precautions and long-term management strategies in place to help reduce the risk of further problems.

Her posture is now completely straight, with only a very slight residual weakness in her left hindlimb. Her core exercises will always be part of her long-term management, but I’m so happy to say that Poppy has now been discharged pain-free, comfortable and trying to play during her physio sessions! 🥹

That is a pretty big change from the frightened little dog who first arrived.

Cases like Poppy’s are exactly why I love what I do. ❤️

Dolly was first diagnosed with arthritis at just 2 years old, and by 6 it was classed as severe. I honestly didn’t think she would make it past 10, but here she is at 14… still happy, comfortable and as puppy-like as ever! 🥰

Arthritis is very much a multimodal condition, and managing it successfully means looking at the whole picture. There isn’t one magic treatment, it’s about finding the right combination of things to keep each individual dog comfortable, mobile and enjoying life.

These are just some of the things that help keep Dolly happy and healthy in her older years. 🤍

You may have seen my video of Wiggle, the rescue dog at All Animal Rescue U.K that underwent spinal surgery after suffering a blunt force trauma that damaged her spinal cord.

She’s making the most incredible progress. Her mobility and comfort have improved so much with regular laser therapy, and it’s been amazing to watch.
Rehabilitation, though, has been the biggest challenge…not because of her body, but because of her anxiety. Wiggle finds being asked to do new things really overwhelming. It took weeks just to build the confidence for her to place two paws on a balance pad.

This week, for the very first time, she stood with all four paws on the cushions, simply by following a treat💛

It might seem like a small step, but it’s a huge milestone.

Her posture still needs plenty of work, but right now our priority is building her confidence, earning her trust, and helping her feel safe. That foundation will allow us to start engaging her core and continue her rehabilitation journey.

So proud of you, Wiggle🐾

Happy 14th Birthday to my beautiful girl 🥹

When she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis at just 2 years old, we never imagined she’d make it to old age. Yet here she is, 14 years later, still reminding us every day how resilient she is.

She still thinks she’s a puppy sometimes, she’s just living in an older dog’s body ❤️

I don’t think she’ll see her 15th birthday, but I just appreciate every single day we have together. Every cuddle, every little walk, every tail wag and every moment is a gift.

Happy birthday, my sweetest girl. I love you more than words could ever say. 🐾🎂

There were just 3 days between these photos…

No, the tape hasn’t built muscle in 72 hours. That simply isn’t physiologically possible. What you’re seeing is improved muscle activation.

At his treatment, this horse received myofascial release, deep tissue massage, wither mobilisations (wither rocks), followed by kinesiology taping. The manual therapy helped reduce muscle tension and restore normal tissue mobility, while the tape provided continuous sensory input to the skin, enhancing proprioception and encouraging the nervous system to recruit the shoulder muscles more effectively.

The result? Just 3 days later, there was noticeably less hollowing behind the scapula, suggesting the muscles were being recruited more efficiently. This isn’t new muscle growth, it’s better use of the muscle that’s already there.

Whilst the evidence in horses is still emerging, studies have shown promising effects of kinesiology taping on thoracolumbar movement, stride characteristics and muscle activity. Żebrowska et al. (2019) demonstrated changes in back kinematics following kinesiology taping, while Bosch et al. (2018) found taping altered muscle activity. Human research also supports its ability to influence proprioception and muscle activation (Paoloni et al., 2011; Williams et al., 2012). However, it’s most effective as part of a physiotherapy treatments and rehabilitation rather than a standalone treatment.

Sometimes function improves before size…and that’s exactly what we want to see 💚

As a veterinary physiotherapist, I meet a lot of dogs on their road to recovery. Every one of them has a story.

But Wiggle’s is one I’ll never forget.

When I first met her at All Animal Rescue U.K, she was frightened, in pain and carrying the physical scars of unimaginable cruelty. Over the past few months, I’ve watched her transform into a dog who’s beginning to trust, play and enjoy life for perhaps the very first time.

Just when it felt like everything was finally falling into place, further investigations revealed Wiggle has Meningeal Diverticulum. A rare spinal condition that now threatens everything she’s fought so hard for.

The good news is that there is a treatment that could give her the future she deserves. The bad news is this is far more than the rescue can afford, and so they are trying to raise funds to cover at least the majority of her surgery.

I’ve made this video because I wanted people to see just how far she’s come. Every clip is a reminder that she’s not defined by what happened to her, she’s defined by her resilience.

Every donation, even £1, will go towards the surgery she needs. If donating isn’t possible, sharing her story could help it reach someone who can.
