Not every struggling man looks sad.

Sometimes it looks like anger.
Snapping at loved ones.
Withdrawing from people.
Saying “I’m just tired” all the time.
Keeping everything bottled up until it boils over.

Many men silently battle anxiety, panic, low mood, or depression while trying to carry on as normal. Others feel misunderstood, disconnected, or alone… even when surrounded by people.

The truth is, struggling with your mental health doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you human.

At Man Down, we know how hard it can be for men to open up, especially when they’ve spent years feeling like they have to stay strong or keep emotions hidden.

That’s why our peer support groups exist.
A safe, relaxed space to talk, listen, and connect with other men who understand.

No judgement.
No pressure.
Just support.

A conversation could be the first step toward getting support.

82 men a week die by su***de.

The shame along with the stigma prevents these men from sharing their story with others…….

This Volunteers' Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all of our Man Down facilitators.

Every week, across Hampshire, our facilitators give up their time to create safe spaces where men can talk, listen, and support one another.

They show up after work.
They volunteer their evenings.
They welcome new faces.
They listen without judgement.
They help keep conversations safe and respectful.

Many of our facilitators have faced their own challenges and understand just how important it is for men to have somewhere to turn when life gets tough.

The impact they have often goes unseen, but for the men who walk through our doors each week, their support can make a real difference.

To every facilitator, volunteer, and supporter who helps Man Down continue its work across Hampshire -

Thank you for your time.
Thank you for your commitment.
Thank you for helping men know they are not alone.

Please join us in showing your appreciation by leaving a thank you message in the comments below 👇

We know how difficult it can be to join a new group. But you aren't just walking into a room; you’re joining the Man Down family, built on a foundation of honesty and mutual respect. You will be met with a handshake or a simple "thanks for coming."

This is a free, inclusive, and safe space. No referals, no judgment and most importantly, your story is yours to tell, and it’s respected.

Confidentiality is paramount to what we do;

You are in the driver's seat, there is no pressure. You can sit, listen and soak in the atmosphere, until the time is right for you.

When you're ready to share, you will find a circle of men who aren't just waiting for their turn—they are actively listening.

There is a unique kind of magic that happens when you realise the man sitting opposite you has walked a similar path.

You’ll be surrounded by guys who have faced the same shadows and come out the other side. They offer:

• Genuine Support: Empathy from men who just "get it."
• Proven Coping Mechanisms: sharing practical, real-world tools that worked for them.
• No Labels: Just men of equal status, helping each other.

The goal is simple: to prove to you. That you are not alone. By showing up, you are already winning the battle against self-isolation. This is where;

• Shame loses its power: Bringing issues into the light makes them much less scary.

• Self-loathing is replaced by progress: You begin to realise that you are Not a "problem," but a man on a journey.

• Friendships are forged: You’ll find new connections with men who value the real you

As you listen and share the light at the end of the tunnel will appear and grow bigger and brighter with every session.

This is the start of your journey back to your best self, supported by a new family, that has your back every step of the way.

☀️ Meds & The Heatwave: Important Safety Warning! 💊

Did you know that many antidepressants (such as sertraline, citalopram, fluoxetine, or duloxetine (SSRIs)) interfere with your body's ability to regulate temperature and sweat?

This significantly increases your risk of overheating and dehydration in warm weather!

How to stay safe:
💧 Drink extra water before you feel thirsty.

⛱️ Stay in the shade during peak heat hours.

🧢 Wear loose, light clothing and a hat.

🥵 Watch for warning signs like dizziness, headache, or nausea.

⚠️ Crucial: Never stop or change your medication without speaking to a doctor first

You don’t have to face this alone……..

There are people out there who really care about you but just find it hard talking about your situation because it makes them feel uncomfortable and sad, and that’s ok.

There are people out there who love you with all their heart but just can’t find the words to say to make you feel better , and that’s ok as well.

Our guys get you, they understand your situation and they empathise with your feelings and thoughts.

We can’t fix you but we can listen and that’s incredibly important and powerful.

For many men life can feel relentless.

Work pressures.
Financial responsibilities.
A body that doesn’t recover like it used to.
Stress that never really switches off.

Some men are quietly battling burnout and exhaustion while trying to keep everything together for everyone else. Others worry about getting older in the workplace, feeling replaced, overlooked, or struggling to keep up with demands.

Stress can show up in ways we don’t always recognise… poor sleep, anger, constant fatigue, headaches, drinking more, or simply feeling numb and disconnected.

At Man Down, we want men to know they don’t have to carry it all alone.

Reaching out helps.
Talking helps.
Connection helps.

If this post makes you think of a man who’s under pressure, check in with him. Share this post with him. Sometimes a simple message or conversation can make a bigger difference than you realise.

Our peer support groups are safe, informal spaces where men can talk openly without judgement.

You are not weak for struggling.
And you don’t have to face it alone.

Let’s talk about it
