You can look strong on the outside while carrying the weight of the world inside.

We all struggle.

We all have moments when things feel too heavy.

The important thing to remember is this…… that you don’t have to carry it all alone.

Start a conversation.

Ask for support.

Let someone in.

Let’s talk about it

You can achieve anything you want in life.

Don’t ever believe that where you are right now is your final destination. The way you feel today, the way you feel in this very moment whilst reading this post, will not last forever.

Tomorrow is a new day. A new opportunity. A chance to take a step forward.

Give yourself the opportunity to change the way you see yourself and the world around you. Take that leap of faith. Believe that things can be different. Start working towards becoming the person and living the life you want.

You don’t need to have everything figured out today. You just need to give yourself the chance to believe that your future can look different from your present.

Keep going. Your story isn’t over yet.

Let’s talk about it

This is a message from a friend who’s experienced the benefits of attending a Man Down meeting & has been kind enough to share it. The most hardest part of coming to any of our sessions is walking through the door. The most important thing you’ll learn is that you’re not alone.

This is the most personal thing I've ever posted. But we all need to talk about this. This year my body gave out under the weight of everything. A&E with chest pain. Days I couldn't move. Panic attacks I had no words for at the time. Some of you might be wondering why I disappeared, or why you haven...

It’s true. There’s not a person on this planet that hasn’t gone through some kind of anxiety/stress/upset/depression or any kind of difficulty that’s set them back. For some, they’ve been able to work out a way through it and get by. For others, it can knock the wind out of them.

The best thing you can do when these situations is to share it. For generations, men have been told to man up, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, chin up, stand on your own two feet. That’s all well and good, but we all need support from time to time and it’s better to share what we’re going through than struggle with it alone. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of us realising we want to move forwards and we could use an outside perspective to help us. We don’t have all the answers all of the time, so let’s turn to those around us that might.

At Man Down Hampshire , we’re all experienced at going through the rough stuff and, thankfully, coming out the other side. Our facilitators aren’t immune to difficulties, but we’re always there to listen and support. Our meetings are safe, confidential, judgement-free spaces, so feel free to drop in for a chat, or just to listen. Let’s help reduce the number of suicides, let’s help men understand they’re not alone. Let’s talk about it.

We’re not professionals, we’re not therapists. We are men with lived experience who want to support other men going through a tough time.

One of the most powerful things you can do for someone who is experiencing a tough time is to listen 👂🏻

Not try to fix, not try and find the answers, not offer advice. Just listen.

Peer to peer support has been recognised now as one the most powerful interventions and support systems for people experiencing poor bouts of mental illness and listening is by far the most important part of this specific support system.

Peer-led support provides something many men struggle to find elsewhere: connection, understanding and a space to talk without judgement.

At Man Down, we see first-hand the difference that conversation, community and shared experience can make. Our peer support groups remind men that they don’t have to carry life’s challenges on their own, and that opening up can be the first step towards feeling better.

Support isn’t always about having the answers. Sometimes it’s simply knowing you’re not facing things alone, surrounded by people who understand because they’ve been there too.

Together, we can continue creating spaces where no man feels he has to suffer in silence.
