What if the universe isn't something happening around you, but expressing itself through you.

You don't need a perfect life to feel peace - you need a lighter mind.

We must stop reminiscing over what has already happened and rehearsing what is yet to come, and instead find our peace in the present moment. In what is happening now.

Yoga targets body, breath, and mind, the three dimensions of ourselves where obstacles to Being are located, creating dis-ease in the mind as well as disease in the body and feeling heavy.

Yoga teaches us how to lighten our load and feel light in every way. To recognise it all as passing clouds and find stillness in the middle of it all. To remember how to feel strong, whole, and healthy. To think think clearly with discernment, and feel charged with energy and yet totally relaxed. To remember who we are. Yoga is a philosophy on life, as I have always liked to say, not just something we do, but how we meet life.

We can't fix a frequency problem with purely chemical or physical fixes. We need to shift the frequency. What we are putting out. What we are feeling. What we are thinking. How we are getting energy flowing and moving. What we do, think, and feel in every moment determines our next moment. Just think about that. What are you doing now?

All classes are back on as normal for the next couple of weeks (before the next bank holiday interruption, many apologies in advance πŸ˜¬πŸ™)

The first niyama (internal observance) of the Yoga Sutras is saucha, cleanliness. This relates to the body, but it also relates to the mind. We keep our body clean daily because we know we should and it feels good when we do. We clean our clothes and our environment and feel the effect of an uncluttered and clean space immediately.

But inside our inner world of thought forms, how do we practice it there? How do we practice this with the same loving attention in our mental health as well as our physical health? We feed our body healthy foods, and in the same way, we need to feed our mind conscious attention and positive vibrations.

Mental cleanliness means tidying away all the thought forms that give energy to the aspect of your psyche that wants to take life force away from you, to create dis-ease in the mind. We can, through the process of observation and just paying attention, notice when this inner voice speaks through our ego, our sense of "I".

We hear it in the form of self-defeating thoughts about ourselves, our efforts, our worth, about what other people are thinking etc. And we can stop watering those seeds. We can notice that old pattern playing out again, that's saying we can't for whatever reason. We can distance ourselves from that voice of doubt and override it through our awareness of it. And most wonderfully, we can choose to find out for ourselves instead. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right" (Henry Ford).

On the flip side, we can plant the seeds of thought forms we DO want to lay down the roots and foundations for, that we want to become new patterns/habits or well used and instinctive neural pathways of the brain.

We can wire the brain with frequencies that we choose when we actively involve ourselves in the creation process. We can nurture those seeds by watering them frequently, telling our growing life force that we are loved, safe, healthy, whole, perfect, powerful, and harmonious. If nothing else, the body is listening to these words and whether you believe them or not, the body will act upon them.

So wire your body to align with the thoughts you choose to have, and make a habit of loving yourself every single day through your intent and your conscious language.

We'd never say the things we say to ourselves to anyone else. Think of your human body and mind as a beloved pet. That we have one single job in this lifetime to do when it boils down to it, to look after, rest, love, care for, feed, exercise, and nurture in body and mind. And we wouldn't put down our pet or call them ugly or stupid or incapable or direct any hate or frustration at them. Yoga teaches us to love ourselves for many reasons. Mental cleanliness is something initially we have to try at, but eventually through yoga practice, it becomes a natural state of being implemented from the inside out.

And when we catch ourselves in the act of inevitably condemning ourselves, we slowly start to become more aware of it. And we reframe and replace that thought with the seed we're germinating and nurturing, and then let it go. In this way, we clean up the space of our mind, we create clarity. And from clarity comes right action.

Language is important. It wires our reality. We are what we think, to quote the Buddha.

I can't - blocks your energy
I am - creates your identity
I attract - calls it into existence
I release - clears your path

Speak with intention
Especially to yourself.

A little about Yoga ...

It is not just stretching. Mobility also encompasses strength, balance, and coordination, as well as flexibility. And these attributes create mobility, the biggest indicator of our mortality. And it doesn't stop on an anatomical level. Yoga targets our nervous system, mind, and energy too, in fact these are the primary targets. The strong, flexible, and healthy body created through yoga is necessary to go beyond it, and a wonderful side effect of Yoga, that at it's deepest level is intended to cultivate peace and stillness, balance and wholeness. Mental and physical health are stepping stones on the jounrey through the self to the self.

Yoga connects us to who we are, beneath our mind, body, and senses. It connects us to our inner nature. We have to go through the body to get there, and cultivate presence. To be in the moment is the greatest gift we can give ourselves, undistracted by the body. Undistracted by time and the thought forms of the mind, which both create dis-ease.

A little timely inspiration ...

As spring starts to really take off we are invited to grow with nature, both inside and outside. We can learn so much from nature.

🌳 let the trees remind you that growth takes time
πŸ’¨ let the wind show you that you're allowed to shift direction and pace
🌸 let the flowers show you that nothing blooms forever, and that's part of beauty
🌊 let the ocean teach you that you can hold both stillness and storm, softness and strength
☁️ let the clouds show you that when things grow heavy, it's time to let them go
🌟 let the stars remind you that light is revealed through darkness
β˜€οΈ let the sun teach you that no matter how long you've been hidden, you will rise again

(The Fallen Poet)

We are part of nature, and yoga helps us to come back to being present within it, within ourselves, and the ever changing worlds within and around us....

To be connected to nature's inevitable flows, cycles, ebbs, and currents. To be as present as nature; to be, as nature.

A tree does not say to another tree, "what time is it?" Because there is just now. It does not hold on to fear or anguish. It goes on, resilient and always seeking life, like water flowing around all obstacles, powered by the light of the sun, as does all nature.

Yoga cultivates presence, through drawing our awareness within. And the more we notice what is within us, the stillness and silence beneath, the layers, the thought forms, the emotions, reactions, judgements, and patterns, and the ability to stay present, the more vivid and rich both our inner and outer worlds become.

Yoga connects us to our own nature, our breath, body, and the feelings and emotions that we have, and the calm eye of the storm within. And the more we know ourselves, the more connected we are to the world around us too. Equally, the more time we spend learning from nature, the more we also learn about ourselves. Spring is coming .. grow with it 🌸

I shall miss being outside so much in the beautiful landscape of Norway. But the brightness of the green driving home yesterday didn't even look real πŸ’šπŸŒ³πŸ’š we are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place too. I encourage you to begin this week with this thought of gratitude for where we live, get out in it, breathe it, really see it.

Beauty and grief are both associated with our lungs in ancient Chinese medicine. We can feel the difference when we breathe deeply surrounded by nature. Nature is the best medicine, let your senses be flooded with nature and beauty. And in your day and yoga practice, use your breath to free your lungs and find inner beauty and peace in the same way - feel the aliveness of both body and breath. Reconnect to your inner nature too 🌟

The world needs more care, compassion, and light right now. When we are present, we let go of fear, anxiety, and un-ease. We align, grow, and flow with nature by aligning with her, in the abundant life all around us now, but also equally within. This is what Yoga teaches us to do. So yes we stretch, and yes Vinyasa will make you fit and strong, and yes Yin helps to ease aches and pains. But Yoga is so much more than this. It teaches us how to live our lives and to thrive in our life situations ✨️

Mind is everything, whatever we think, we become 🌸

Happy first day of the Fire Horse 🐎πŸ”₯

This energy comes around every 60 years, it is rare, powerful energy that ignites our forward momentum, passion, and independence in a fiery blaze of rapid movement and momentum. It is the time for courage, and acting without fear knowing the universe is behind us, and it favours risk and boldness in this coming year. It is the time to say yes to what we've always wanted to do but never felt the time was right or that we were good enough or ready.

This fire and momentum also needs to be grounded and aligned with our heart energy: fire energy is heart energy, and to move forward without burnout or recklessness, it is important to be clear about our direction, remember to ground and recentre, and above all, to act from balanced heart energy with clarity, warmth, joy, connection, care, conscience, and forgiveness.

As we enter a time of rapid and great transformation and change, I invite you to join me for my next Yin Yoga and Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Bath on Saturday 28th February, where we step into this new zodiac year with purpose, grounding, and direction. .
