"This brings back memories of my grandad's shop," June told us in the recreated butchers at Weston Park Museum. 📸

She was there with Michael and Kevan, who was amazed at how well preserved some exhibits were, some thousands of years old. Michael got talking to Lee about the miners' strike, swapping memories from those times.

Lots of wonderful conversation and stories to tell when we got home. 🧡

The ladies couldn't stop talking about Alan after today's singalong. 🎶💃

We danced and sang to songs from the 50s to the 70s, from Frank Sinatra to Elvis, with residents joining in from their chairs and on the dance floor. Hazel got up and danced, laughing with the team and fellow residents.

It was the kind of afternoon that gets everyone chatting and smiling for days. Thank you, Alan!

John was straight back in uniform remembering serving for the country. 💛

Our trip to the Yorkshire Air Museum brought back memories for him, and Sid said he loved seeing all the planes and land vehicles up close.

There was a lot of chatter on the minibus home as our gentlemen talked over what they'd seen. A brilliant day out.

Donna had everyone singing today, and Minnie said how lovely it was. 🎶

She played songs from all eras, and the room was full of boogies and big smiles. Tina laughed and smiled all the way through, Jeff, Howard and John danced in their chairs, Lynn clapped along to the songs she knew, and Sheila tapped her feet and swayed to the music.

Another lovely friendship lunch at the Masons. 🍽️

This week we headed to the Masons in Wickersley. Geoff and his lovely wife Sheila said it was a really enjoyable lunch. Margaret said loved everything about the day, especially the bingo and the singer.

Sharing a meal with friends is one of life’s simple pleasures and it’s so important for our residents to stay connected with the people around them. Thank you to the Masons for looking after us so well. Here’s to many more friendship lunches together

Pompom and Natter at The Abbeys 🧶🎄

Our wonderful ladies have been busy making pompoms, ready to be turned into beautiful Christmas wreaths. There's been plenty of chatting and laughter around the table and they joked that they're the pompom version of "Knit and Natter".

It's been lovely hearing their stories about making pompoms as children. We can't wait to see the finished wreaths! 💚

A warm welcome to Jean and Margaret, the newest members of The Abbeys community. 💕

We marked the occasion with a morning of tea, coffee and cake at Flourish Cafe and Walled Garden, joined by Pauline and Betty. ☕

Jean shared stories from when she was younger. She couldn't resist what was in the sweet cupboard and would go back "again and again". When her mum asked where it had all come from, Jean would laugh and say "your house!" 😄

It was lovely to hear Jean chatting away and sharing her memories out in the community. Margaret told us she loves a cup of coffee, while Jean's favourite is a cup of tea.

Our trip to the National Railway Museum brought back lots of memories for our gentlemen. 🚂

Peter was a first class signalman for 13 years before he retired. He showed Wellbeing Lead Emma how the signals worked, including the distant signal with its white band, and how signal boxes were once full of levers.

Geoff remembered putting pennies on the tracks as a young lad so the trains would flatten them.

Everyone chatted about days gone by all the way round. Our minibus means everyone can come along on trips like this, and they mean a great deal to the gentlemen who share their stories 🚌 😊

An exciting visit from Animal Ark Pet Therapy.🦉🦎

They brought along a skinny pig (a hairless guinea pig!), a chinchilla, a tortoise, an owl and a gecko. It was lovely how everyone could enjoy the visit in their own way and many residents told us how fascinating it was to come close to animals they hadn't seen before.

It's not every day you get to meet an owl up close and it's lovely to see residents still discovering new things and sharing them together.

Eyes down for bingo this afternoon! 🎱

Bingo has been a favourite for many of our residents for years and today's game brought back plenty of memories of playing when they were younger.

Things got very exciting whenever someone was just one number away! Thank you to everyone who joined in for a great afternoon.
