Over the next few weeks, we are going to try to answer some of the questions you may have when someone passes away.
Our hope is that when the time comes, having a little knowledge of what happens next can help make an incredibly difficult time a little bit easier.
You may never need this information, but if you do we hope it helps you feel a little more prepared.
“Someone has died at home. What do I do now?”
When someone passes away at home, knowing what to do next can feel overwhelming. You don’t have to deal with everything at once.
If the death was expected following an illness, the first step is to contact the person’s GP or the appropriate healthcare professional. This means the death can be verified and the necessary medical documentation can be completed.
If the death was sudden or unexpected, the circumstances may be different and the Coroner may need to be involved. We can explain what this means and help guide you through that process.
Once the death has been verified, you can contact J Parkinson & Sons at any time, day or night, available 24 hours a day. You do not need to have decided what kind of funeral you want before calling us.
We will:
• Talk you through what happens next
• Arrange for your loved one to be brought into our care
• Explain the funeral arrangements and your options
• Answer any questions you may have
• Guide you through the practical steps ahead
