Anxiety often asks:
"What if everything goes wrong?"
A gentle response might be:
"What if I can cope with more than I give myself credit for?"

Monday reminder:
You don't need to start the week with a new routine, a five-year plan, and endless motivation.
Sometimes getting up, having a drink, and taking the next small step is enough.
💜 One step at a time.

In Inside Out, the control panel becomes more complex over time more colours, more buttons, more nuance.
Many people describe their emotional world changing in similar ways after grief, loss, anxiety or identity shifts.
There’s no need to choose one emotion or “manage” them perfectly.
They can sit alongside each other.
They can take turns.
They can be part of your story without defining all of it.

If you’d like a space to explore your own emotional landscape, you’re welcome to reach out.

Only if and when it feels right for you.

Which emotion would you like to understand more gently?

Anger and disgust often show up when something feels “off”, uncomfortable, or no longer aligned.
They can be quiet signals of change, boundaries, or identity shifts.
Not emotions to fear just emotions to listen to.
They sometimes reveal what we’ve outgrown, or what we’re ready to move away from.

Is there anything in your life that no longer feels like it fits?

Fear can be loud, subtle, protective, overwhelming sometimes all at once.
For many people, anxiety isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of caring deeply about something.
Instead of battling fear, it can be gentler to simply notice it.
To ask it what it needs.
To see what it might be trying to guard.

What might fear or anxiety be trying to protect in you?

Sadness can feel heavy, but it can also feel honest.
It often shows up when something mattered, when something changed, or when life feels different than we expected.
There’s no need to push it away or make it smaller.
Sometimes sadness simply wants to be witnessed not fixed.

If sadness could speak softly today, what might it say?

Joy can be a quiet thing.

Not always bright or bubbly sometimes it’s a small moment that softens the edges of a hard day.
For some people, especially during grief or anxiety, joy can feel distant… or complicated… or even unwelcome.
There’s no right way for joy to appear.
If it shows up, even briefly, it’s okay to simply notice it without needing to hold onto it.

Has anything brought you even a small sense of warmth or ease lately?

I first watched Inside Out some time ago with my niece. I was fairly new to counselling, and she was just starting out in psychology.
When we watched it again together, we both noticed things we hadn’t the first time little moments that made us go, “ohhh… okay,” or “I like how they’ve shown that.”
Nothing major. Just a quiet sense of seeing it differently.
A deeper appreciation for how emotions can shift, overlap, and try their best to help us through change.

Grief, loss, identity shifts, anxiety… they can all reshape our inner world in ways that feel tender or confusing.
This series isn’t here to define emotions or tell you what they mean.
It’s simply an invitation to notice them.
To sit with them gently.
To see what they might be offering you, in your own time and in your own way.

You’re welcome to take whatever resonates and leave whatever doesn’t.
Your experience matters.

Which emotion feels closest to you today?

Last week, Westlife took me straight back to the harmless, joyful parts of being a teenager. Posters on my wall, singing into a deodorant can, dancing in my bedroom, the smell of tinsel, the TV trolley rolling into class, and my mam and dad waiting outside concerts while my friends and I screamed our hearts out inside.

Adult life can feel heavy, but sometimes we just need permission to loosen the grip. To act daft. To dance in the office. To strip off the armour and remember the person we used to be.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain. And last week, I did exactly that.

As the week ends, maybe take a moment to notice what’s shifting for you.
What’s falling away?
What’s arriving?
What’s still settling?

If grief is part of your season of change whether fresh, quiet, or long‑carried you’re not alone.

If you’d like a safe space to explore your own season of change, you’re welcome to reach out.
