Schools are back. Perhaps it’s time to reset.

The summer holidays can be wonderful… but they can also mean disrupted routines, busy days, late nights, lots of driving, organising, entertaining and generally being needed by everyone else.

And then suddenly — the school run starts again.

It can be tempting to fill that newly available time with the washing, the house, work and the endless list of things that have been waiting for you.

But perhaps you could keep one little bit of that time for yourself.

A quiet hour to switch off.

A treatment to ease tired, tense muscles.

Time to breathe, relax and let your nervous system settle.

Whether that’s a relaxing massage, Sports Therapy, Vacutherapy, Medical Acupuncture or a Notox Face treatment, your appointment is tailored to what you need on the day.

So while everyone else is getting back into their routine…

Why not make looking after yourself part of yours?

Appointments available in Rothesay.

Message me if you’d like to find a treatment that’s right for you.

Your nervous system is part of the treatment too.

When someone comes for treatment, I’m not just thinking about muscles, fascia, joints or the area that hurts.

I’m also thinking about the nervous system.

Pain, muscle tension and sensitivity are influenced by the way the brain and nervous system process information coming from the body. And when the nervous system is under strain, things can feel very different.

That’s one reason why the environment, pace and type of touch I use during a treatment matter.

Sometimes the right approach is deeper and more stimulating.

Sometimes the body responds better to slower, gentler work.

Sometimes we need to spend time working with breathing, relaxation, gentle movement or sensory input before progressing to more specific treatment.

It isn’t about trying to “switch off” the nervous system.

It’s about giving the nervous system appropriate information.

Touch, pressure, movement and changes in tissue loading all provide sensory information to the brain. How that information is interpreted can influence pain, muscle tone, movement and how safe or comfortable the body feels during treatment.

This is why I don’t have one treatment that I do on everyone.

I assess the person in front of me and adapt the treatment accordingly.

Because effective treatment isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about giving the body the right input at the right time.

And that nervous system piece is something I consider in every treatment I provide.

👋 Hi, I’m Lisa…

I’ve had a few new faces around here lately, so I thought it was probably time I properly introduced myself!

I’m Lisa, the person behind Lisa Lomas Therapies — a Level 4 Sports Therapist with a slightly unhealthy fascination with figuring out why our bodies do the things they do. 😂

I work with people experiencing pain, tension, tightness, stress, restricted movement and all those other ways our bodies have of telling us that something isn’t quite right.

My approach is a bit of a mixture.

I’m passionate about understanding the body, looking at the bigger picture and using evidence-informed techniques to work out what might actually help you — rather than simply doing the same treatment on everyone.

But I also believe that treatment shouldn’t feel clinical, intimidating or like you’re being examined by someone in a white coat. 😆

Sometimes you need focused therapeutic work.

Sometimes you need to properly switch off, relax and let someone else look after you for an hour.

And sometimes you need a bit of both.

Alongside massage and sports therapy, I offer treatments including Vacutherapy, fascial work, cupping and acupuncture, as well as facials and skincare.

Basically, I have quite a few tools in the box — and I like working out which ones actually make sense for you.

I’m based from my home clinic in Rothesay, work from a clinic in Dunoon every other Thursday, and also offer mobile treatments.

I also have clinics in the Lake District and Rossendale by arrangement.

One of my favourite things about this job is that every person who walks through my door is different. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to bodies, and I love figuring out what your body needs.

So, if you’re new around here…

Hello! 👋

I’m really glad you’re here.

Have a nose around, get to know what I do, and if you’ve been quietly following for a while but haven’t made it through the door yet…

I promise I’m much less scary in person. 😂

“I’ve had more days of relief from this than I normally get from massage.”

A client said this to me today after having Vacutherapy on her neck — and it got me thinking about why some people experience a different, sometimes longer-lasting response to Vacutherapy than they do from massage alone.

Massage and Vacutherapy both provide mechanical input to the tissues, but they do it in very different ways.

With hands-on massage, I’m applying pressure and movement into the tissues.

With Vacutherapy, controlled negative pressure gently lifts the skin and superficial tissues away from the structures underneath them.

That creates a different type of mechanical stimulus — stretching and deforming the superficial tissues while also influencing local blood flow and sensory receptors.

And this is where fascia gets particularly interesting.

Fascia isn’t simply a sheet of tissue wrapped around a muscle. It’s a complex, continuous connective-tissue system containing collagen, cells and a hydrated extracellular matrix. Hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid) is particularly important because it contributes to the hydration and lubrication of fascial interfaces, helping tissues slide relative to one another.

When tissues become stiff, overloaded or less mobile, the way those layers move and transmit force can change.

Vacutherapy gives me another way of influencing that tissue environment.

Rather than continually compressing an already restricted area, I can use negative pressure to lift and mobilise the superficial tissues, while combining it with movement and hands-on techniques where appropriate.

That doesn’t mean Vacutherapy is better than massage.

It means they are different tools.

And sometimes the tissues respond particularly well to that lifting and shearing stimulus.

Interestingly, there is emerging clinical evidence for cupping-type interventions in neck pain, although the research quality and mechanisms are still being investigated. A 2026 systematic review found improvements in pain, function and range of motion in adults with chronic neck pain, while also noting limitations in the underlying evidence.

So when a client tells me:

“I’ve had more days of relief than I normally get from massage.”

I don’t automatically think “Vacutherapy fixes neck pain.”

I think:

Her tissues and nervous system responded really well to this particular combination of input.

And that’s exactly why I don’t believe in using one technique for everyone.

Assess. Understand. Adapt.

That’s the interesting part of being a therapist. 🌿

Have you ever had a massage and thought:

“Why on earth do I feel worse today?” 😳

It doesn’t necessarily mean the massage was “too deep” or that something has gone wrong.

Sometimes your body simply needs time to respond to the treatment — particularly if you’ve been carrying a lot of tension, haven’t had treatment for a while, or the area has been working hard.

But here’s the important bit:

Feeling sore isn’t the goal of a good massage.

You shouldn’t have to be barely able to move the next day to know you’ve had a “proper” treatment.

For me, the aim is to work with your body rather than against it, adapting the pressure and techniques to what you actually need on the day.

Sometimes that’s deeper work.

Sometimes it’s gentle.

Sometimes it’s mostly about getting you to switch off for an hour.

And sometimes the best treatment is the one you didn’t realise you needed. 🌿

How do you feel after a massage — wonderfully relaxed, a little tender, or completely battered? 😂
