Last week we bid a sad farewell to our lovely Pauline Riley .... she has worked for James Hirons for over twelve years and has put her heart and soul into the home xx we will miss you Pauline and we hope if you are not too busy cruising that you will come and visit us 😉 xx

Day one....... a few weeks of inconvenience and hopefully we will see our dining room transform into a beautiful space where the residents can relax and enjoy their lunchtimes, with each other and their families and friends xx 😊

🏡✨ THE JAMES HIRONS DINING ROOM IS GETTING A MAKEOVER! ✨🏡
We’re very excited to share that our dining room refurbishment is getting underway on Monday!! 🎉

As with any refurbishment, there will inevitably be some disruption, a little dust and some changes to our usual routine while the work takes place. But please don’t worry — life at James Hirons will continue as normally as possible. ❤️

We may just need to do things slightly differently for a little while. Our residents will still be enjoying their meals, activities, conversations, laughter and all the familiar things that make James Hirons feel like home. We’ll simply be adapting around the work as we go.

We kindly ask our residents, families and visitors to bear with us and understand that things may look a little different for a short time. We promise it will all be worth it! 🛠️✨

As part of the refurbishment, we have some of the existing light fittings and curtains available for sale.

💜 A wonderfully fragrant day out for our residents! 💜

Today we enjoyed a 2nd beautiful visit to the lavender fields at Bubbenhall, where we took in the stunning purple landscapes, breathed in the calming scent of the lavender, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. 🌿💜

After soaking up the views, we treated ourselves to a well-earned coffee and a slice of delicious cake while chatting and relaxing together. ☕🍰

Back at James Hirons, the day continued as we got creative making our very own traditional lavender wands. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they'll also fill our rooms with the lovely fragrance of lavender for weeks to come.

Days like these are about so much more than a trip out—they create special memories, encourage conversation, inspire creativity, and bring plenty of smiles. 💜

✈️ Planes, Trains & Automobiles! 🚐🚆🛫

When residents and staff discover they share the same interests, there is only one thing for it… a trip to Sheldon Country Park to watch the planes take off!
We travelled by mini bus, enjoyed a lovely walk alongside the railway line, and settled into the perfect viewing spot just in time for the crème de la crème of the skies – the magnificent Airbus A380.

A few amazing facts about this giant of aviation: ✈️ Maximum take-off weight: around 575 tonnes ✈️ Passenger capacity: up to 853 passengers in an all-economy layout (most airlines carry around 500–600) ✈️ Wingspan: an incredible 79.8 metres ✈️ Fuel capacity: roughly 320,000 litres of fuel! ✈️ Length: nearly 73 metres, making it one of the largest passenger aircraft ever built.

Seeing such an enormous aircraft lift gracefully into the sky was an unforgettable experience. Our two residents absolutely loved every minute of it — from hearing the engines roar to watching the A380 climb away into the clouds. The smiles on their faces said it all! 😊

A wonderful afternoon filled with fresh air, conversation, shared memories and a little bit of aviation magic.

And as the title suggests, next time we are planning the “trains” part of the adventure and heading off somewhere by rail! 🚆✨

Who knows where our next journey will take us? 🌍💙
