Every July, we pause to recognise something powerful — the strength, creativity and resilience of disabled people in our communities. Disability Pride Month isn’t just a celebration; it’s a reminder of the barriers people continue to face, and the pride that comes from pushing back against them.
In our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, we meet people with all kinds of experiences, identities and stories. Some live with visible disabilities, others with conditions that can’t be seen at all. Many navigate a world that isn’t always designed with them in mind — yet they show up, advocate for themselves, and continue to shape the NHS for the better.
This month, we’re honouring that spirit.
We’re celebrating the people who bring honesty, humour and courage into our clinics. We’re recognising the importance of accessible, person‑centred care. And we’re standing proudly with everyone who has ever had to fight to be seen, heard or understood.
💛 Our commitment to reasonable adjustments
We know that good care isn’t “one‑size‑fits‑all”. If you need extra support to attend your diabetic eye screening — whether that’s a quieter appointment, longer time, help with positioning, communication support, or anything else that makes the process easier — we will work with you to make it happen. Reasonable adjustments aren’t an add‑on. They’re a right, and they’re central to delivering truly inclusive healthcare.
Disability Pride is about visibility. It’s about community. It’s about saying: we belong, exactly as we are.
