In all of our first aid courses, we include a practical module that teaches our learners how to treat minor wounds.

In our first aid at work courses, we go more in-depth into wound management, including wound packing and the correct use of tourniquets.

Our learners love this practical module because they get some great tips from our healthcare trainers.

We run courses throughout Warwickshire and from our centre in Rugby.

On 27th October, we heard about the updated guidance from the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK). To help us get a grasp of this, our awarding organisation, QNUK, put on a special webinar to outline the changes and answer some questions.

We understand there will be ongoing meetings with awarding and governing bodies to clarify matters and let the training community know, through their various awarding organisations, who deliver regulated first aid training.

So far, the main changes and takeaways I picked up on were;

The defib pad on the left side is now closer to the armpit than before, so removing a bra may not be necessary; that would be determined at the time of pad placement.

A change in the age definition for under-18s has often sparked debate about Paediatric first aid courses, but this has now been clarified.

🔸 Infant: from birth to 1st birthday.

🔸 Child: from 1 to 12 years old.

🔸 Adolescents from 13 to 18 years old.

CPR for infants has changed: 5 rescue breaths as before, but the compression ratio is now 15:2, and we use our thumbs to apply compressions, whereas before it was our fingers.

This new guidance has only been out for a few days, and we will have to await clarification from various bodies on the questions that many of us have asked.

As we advance, we will work with our awarding organisation (QNUK) to implement changes to the assessment criteria as they become known to us, and these will be reflected in our training deliveries from early 2026.

First aid is an essential life skill, and while we hope we never need it, there’s a good chance it will be useful at some point in our lives.

Our First Aid at Work course is led by healthcare professionals who have real-world experience and expert knowledge in first aid.

This OFQUAL-regulated course is accredited by Qualifications Network UK, making it widely recognised across the UK.

The First Aid at Work course covers much more than our 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work course. It offers a comprehensive understanding of CPR and the safe use of AEDs, as well as the treatment of common conditions and ailments.

You will learn how to assist someone experiencing an anaphylactic reaction, manage a diabetic episode, help someone having a seizure, and much more.

Topics also include how to assist someone with a suspected spinal injury, a head injury, and how to handle fractures and broken bones. You will gain skills in managing life-threatening bleeds and other critical situations.

This course offers an excellent balance of theory and practical application, enabling you to practice your newly acquired and updated skills during hands-on training scenarios on the second day of the course.

First Aid at Work is the highest level of first aid training we offer, surpassing pre-hospital care skills.

We welcome businesses, individuals, and members of the public to participate in this course.
