The Five Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood) play an important role in Chinese Medicine theory.

Summer is the season associated with the Fire Element. Do you have a Fire child?

From newborn to teenage years, acupuncture aims to resolve children’s health imbalances as they arise, and can be used as an adjunct to conventional paediatric care.

When you treat the child it's also about shaping the adult they will become. Treating children is about building a strong foundation for their health.

Children can benefit significantly from paediatric acupuncture. Their bodies are highly responsive, they often require shorter sessions and much gentler, non-invasive techniques.

I'm a degree level trained acupuncturist, with post-graduate training in paediatrics.

I'm a member of the British Acupuncture Council, and a member of the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture.

I'm lucky to work from two beautiful Warwickshire locations - The Acupuncture Academy and the Therapy Rooms Rugby. Today I'm in Leamington Spa and took a windy walk through Jephson Gardens on my break.

I've been discussing with clients how the abrupt temperature drop following May's heat wave can impact our bodies, and people have been really feeling it this June, with many people feeling tired, stiff, fatigued, or more susceptible to colds.

In Chinese medicine, changes in weather can influence our defences, particularly when transitioning from warm to cold, windy, or damp environments.

Acupuncture is an excellent way to boost your immune system, relieve tension, calm your nervous system, and help you feel more balanced during these seasonal changes.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Taking care of our mental wellbeing is super important. Acupuncture can really help with mental health by soothing the nervous system, lowering stress hormones like cortisol.

Treatment encourages the release of feel-good chemicals like serotonin and endorphins helping with anxiety, depression, and sleep problems.

Stress happens when life gets overwhelming for young people and adults.

Young people might feel pressure from school or major life changes. For adults this might be work or relationship pressures.

Self-care is all about making a conscious effort to take steps that maintain, restore, and enhance your physical, mental, and emotional health.

I’m delighted to share that I’ve recently completed the “Art of Shonishin” course with the inspiring Thomas Wernicke.

Shonishin is a specialised, non-invasive Japanese paediatric acupuncture technique suitable for children from infancy through adolescence.

Using small, purpose-designed tools, it involves gentle tapping, stroking, and rubbing of the skin to stimulate the body’s energetic systems. This approach can support a range of conditions, including eczema, colic, sleep disturbances, allergies, and asthma, while also helping to strengthen the immune system and promote calm.

Thomas, alongside his wife and teaching partner Karin, travelled from Germany to the UK to share their deep knowledge and experience of this beautifully gentle method of treating children.

I’m proud to now be a Certified Shonishin Acupuncturist, with certification recognised by the Japanese Society for Paediatric Acupuncture.
