Today is World Blood Donor Day, a chance to recognise and thank the incredible people who donate blood and help save lives every day.
Many of us don't think about blood until an emergency happens. Following a serious accident, traumatic injury, or catastrophic bleed, blood transfusions can be the difference between life and death.
While first aiders play a vital role in controlling severe bleeding and providing immediate care, donated blood is often essential once that casualty reaches hospital. Without blood donors, many patients involved in major trauma, surgery, childbirth complications, cancer treatment, and medical emergencies would not survive.
Every blood donation has the potential to save or improve multiple lives.
