👣 Heel and foot pain driving you mad??

We see a lot of cases of Plantar Fasciitis this time of year, which can be common due to poorly fitted footwear.

If you’re prone to pain under or around the feet provide poorly fitting sliders and flip flops as they can cause pain.

We’d also recommend trying to massage and stretch the feet out along with rolling your foot under an ice cold water bottle or rolling pin at home.

Are your trainers suitable for the training you do?

Ill fitting footwear can cause issues and pain, from
Ankle and feet problems, to knee and hip. If you’ve just started running (or think you’re due a new pair of trainers) it’s well worth considering!

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM):

IASTM Is a manual therapy technique used to stimulate the nervous system, In turn relaxing the fascia, increasing range of movement and decreasing pain. Fascia is a sheath that is formed beneath the skin to attach, enclose and separate muscle. Fascia can become damaged, tight and congealed due to injury, muscle imbalance, trauma and postural faults. Fascia has been described as a ‘map’ so when one area is congested (or damaged) there can be a huge knock on effect to other areas.

Stimulating the nervous system relaxes the fascia which increases mobility and decreased pain. This treatment is fantastic before activity as huge mobility improvement have been seen. It is also beneficial to both acute and chronic injuries as IASTM can reduce inflammation, decrease pain and improve proprioception of the injured site.

Many believe this technique breaks down scar tissue, effects deep muscles and lengthens tissue, however this technique is a very superficial treatment which stimulates the nervous system to relax fascia, in turn improve mobility.

As the treatment is aiming to stimulate superficial layers, very little pain should be felt during treatment; however it may feel slightly uncomfortable as the adhesions in the tissue can felt. (You may appear red after treatment)

Benefits:

Fast / feathering techniques: Reduce pain
Slow techniques: Relax
Fluid capture techniques: Drain Swelling
Shearing techniques: Improve mobility

Labral tear of the hip joint:

A hip labral tear involves the ring of cartilage (labrum) that goes around the outside rim of the socket of your hip joint. As well as cushioning the hip joint, the labrum acts like a rubber seal to help hold the ball at the top of your thighbone securely within your hip socket.

Some athletes have a higher risk of a hip labral tear, particularly those who participate in such sports as:

• Football
• Golf
• Ballet
• Hockey

Structural abnormalities of the hip also can lead to a hip labral tear.

Causes:

• Repetitive use
• Traumatic sports injury due to fall or sudden twisting movement

Symptoms:

• Clicking or snapping feeling in the hip
• Groin pain
• Limited motion in the hip joint

Treatment:

• Physical therapy
• Massage / mobility techniques
• Anti-inflammatory medications
