I used this quote last week when completing a consultation with a new client… Let me explain what I mean!🫡
•
IRC saw a client with chronic lower back pain (LBP). Symptoms and the intensity of pain fluctuated a lot, whereby the client was experiencing peaks and troughs of LBP episodes.
•
Enduring these boom bust cycles for over a year can be exhausting. Being exposed to pain responses repeatedly places your body in such high arousal with heightened sensitivity and awareness disrupting the bodies natural load tolerance and motion.
•
The reason for only now seeking help was because every time a pain response was created, rest, deload and pain management helped ‘cure’ that acute episode.
•
However, as soon as load increased, in the hope to pick up training where it was left off the lower back would suffer.
•
There’s a lot to be said for getting a person out of repeated episodes of pain. Sleep disturbance, pain, soreness and discomfort are all contributing factors to delayed recovery. Certainly treating the acute issue first to improve these factors will help in sorting the whole issue out, once and for all!👏🏼
•
Therefore, an approach of desensitisation and progressive load management with developing tolerance and improving strength capacities to the targeted area will hopefully kick this repeated LBP into touch🤞🏼
