***Remembering Doreen Valiente***
4 January 1922 – 1 September 1999
On this day in 1999, John Belham-Payne held Doreen’s hand as she passed into the Summer-lands. They were friends and working partners during the final years of her life.
Doreen bequeathed her magical collection to John, entrusting to him an extraordinary part of the history of modern witchcraft. John devoted many years to preserving Doreen’s memory and sharing her remarkable contribution to the Craft. Today, the Centre for Pagan Studies continues that work by keeping her story, her writing and her legacy alive for future generations.
But today is not really about collections or history. It is simply a day to remember Doreen.
