The Counselling and Therapy Cottage

The Counselling and Therapy Cottage I'm Suzie, an online Psychotherapist, CBT Practitioner, couples counsellor & clinical supervisor. thecounsellingandtherapycottage.com Hi, I'm Suzie.

I specialise in attachment theory, anxiety, OCD, disordered eating, relationship issues, and inner child work. Living in Cornwall means being surrounded by beautiful blue ocean which I love to swim in! I also love walking in nature, boxercise, yoga, drinking good coffee and coastal walks. Being a therapist is my passion and I'm currently doing CPCAB Accredited Level 7 Post-graduate Training (Maste

rs Level) Course in Attachment-focused Psychotherapy. Alongside my caseload of clients, I am kept pretty busy! I like to keep myself grounded in the present moment as much as possible; whether that be connecting my five senses to my surroundings, being grateful, gardening, crafting, exercising. Being in the ocean really keeps me present; its magical! Anyway, thats me! I'd love to know more about you!

Over the years, I’ve seen how much can happen for clients in the days between therapy sessions.

A difficult moment can arise. Something we’ve explored together suddenly makes sense. You notice an old pattern playing out in real time. You have a breakthrough you want to capture, or simply wish you had somewhere to put everything you’re feeling while it’s still fresh.

And sometimes, waiting until your next session feels like a very long time.

That’s why I’ve created Therapy Companion - an optional extension to your usual therapy session, offering 7 days of between-session therapeutic messaging, reflection and support.

The important part? It’s completely flexible.

Choose Therapy Companion for the weeks when a little more support would feel helpful, and choose your usual therapy session when it wouldn’t. There’s no subscription and no ongoing commitment.

🌿 60-minute Therapy Session - £60
🌿 60-minute Therapy Companion Session + 7 days’ support - £80

Because therapy doesn’t have to stop the moment our session ends.

Happy weekend wishes to one and all! Sea swimming for me today, what’s on your agenda? 🌊🧜🏻‍♀️

I spend my days inviting clients to share the parts of themselves they often keep hidden. It only felt fair that I shared a little of mine too.

This is me. Imperfect, curious, compassionate, forever learning, and deeply grateful that I get to do the work I love every single day.
This little illustration is filled with tiny details that reflect who I am, what I value, what brings me joy, and the way I hope people experience therapy with me.

If you zoom in, you’ll discover lots of little things hidden throughout the picture.

I’d love to know… what’s the first detail you noticed? 💜

One of the absolute treasures and gifts of being a counsellor - the hopeful gifts you offer your clients; the connection, empathy, safety, belief, pride, interest, admiration, congruence, life experience, light bulb moments, and so much more - the therapeutic relationship offers such a beautiful ripple effect that lasts and keeps expanding outwards. How blessed we are as therapists, how truly humbled and blessed. 🥹

This… 100 times this.

One of the things I hear often from clients is, “Sorry… that was a lot.”

Please know that it never feels like “too much.” Being trusted with someone’s deepest thoughts, fears and emotions is an incredible privilege, and one I never take lightly.

This is exactly why I chose this profession. Why I spent years training, invested so much of myself along the way, and continue to develop my skills; because being able to sit alongside someone in their darkest moments is one of the greatest honours of my work.

Our brains are designed to recognise patterns. Thoughts we repeat over and over can start to feel true simply because they’re familiar.

This is one reason why negative self-talk can become so convincing.

One of the aims of CBT is to help us notice these automatic thoughts, step back from them, and ask whether they’re actually helpful or even accurate. We’re not trying to force positive thinking, we’re looking for thoughts that are balanced, realistic and supported by evidence.

Over time, practising this way of thinking can help build healthier patterns in the brain. It’s a skill, and like any skill, it gets stronger with practice.

Wishing you all a great start to the week, one that ends by landing us in August! How did that happen?! 😝

Such a beautiful concept. I LOVE playing and being playful. With such a responsible job, it feels very cathartic and therapeutic in itself! How often do you find yourself playing? Whether that’s being creative, silly, cheeky, adventurous or something else?
