What SHOULD Parents Do?"

After watching this series, you might be thinking.

'Okay, I understand it better, but what do I actually do when my child is in the middle of a ritual?'

Sometimes, the biggest progress doesn't happen as we expect & that's absolutely okay.
One of my lovely clients, who I saw online, was struggling with fatigue, sensory issues, other health challenges, low confidence and very little belief in herself.

We began working together, but after a few sessions she became so unwell that she simply couldn't take in any more information. Rather than pushing on, we did something different.

I suggested we pause our sessions & I created a programme she could work through gently, in her own time, at her own pace. There was no pressure, no deadlines, just the space she needed to heal.

Fast forward to today & she's completed all of her sessions and is doing incredibly well.

Yesterday she sent me this amazing phone screensaver she'd created from the programme (with a little help from AI!), so she can remind herself every single day just how capable, strong & worthy she really is.
I absolutely love it. ❤️

Sometimes success isn't about going faster. It's about knowing when to pause, adapt & keep moving forward in a way that works for you.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. I'm so proud of how far you've come.

The Question That Changes Everything

If your child came to see me because of OCD behaviours, what do you think the first question I'd ask would be?

Have you ever stopped to make a wish?

We often think wishing is something children do on birthdays, when they spot a shooting star or blow a dandelion into the wind.
But wishing is so much more than that.

A wish represents hope. It sparks imagination, encourages positive thinking & helps us focus on what really matters to us. It reminds us that change is possible, even when life feels difficult.

For children, wishing can be a powerful therapeutic tool. In my work as a Children's Mental Health & Behaviour Specialist, I often use wishes within stories, play & creative activities to gently explore emotions, build self-belief & help children imagine a future where they feel calmer, happier & more confident.
Sometimes the smallest wish can become the first step towards the biggest transformation.

Adults don't have to stop wishing either. Why should we?

So today, if you could make one wish for yourself or your child, what would it be?

OCD - Have you ever found yourself saying to your child... 'Just stop doing it!' or 'I've already checked the door!'?
If you have, please don't feel guilty. Almost every parent has.
But what if I told you that if your child could simply stop themselves, they probably would?

Understanding OCD in Children

What every parent needs to know:

It's not really about the behaviour

Is your child starting a new school, college or university this September?

As September gets closer, some children or teens won't tell you they're worried about starting a new school or moving up a year.

Instead, you might notice more emotional outbursts, tummy aches or headaches, trouble sleeping, becoming clingier than usual, saying "I don't want to go", becoming unusually quiet or withdrawn, getting angry over little things or acting as though they "don't care"

These behaviours aren't children being "difficult."
They're often a sign that they're struggling with big feelings they don't yet have the words to explain.

The good news?
With understanding, reassurance & the right support, children can learn to manage those feelings & approach their new beginning with confidence.

Every behaviour is a form of communication. Sometimes, we just need to listen a little differently.

One of the greatest privileges of my job is hearing updates like this.

Last year, I had the pleasure of supporting a wonderful young girl who was experiencing selective mutism & transitioning to an other school. Together, we worked on building her confidence, self-belief & helping her feel safe to find her own voice.

Today, her mum sent me the most amazing message.
"She's absolutely smashing school and is talking to everyone!"

Moments like these remind me that progress doesn't always happen overnight, but with the right support, patience & encouragement, incredible things can happen.
To her and her family, I couldn't be prouder of you. Keep shining.

If your child is struggling with anxiety, confidence, school worries or finding their voice, please know that things can change.
