Our Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are highly skilled clinicians here to help you
At The Stennack Surgery, we know that some patients are surprised when they're offered an appointment with one of our Nurse Practitioners instead of a GP. We wanted to explain why and reassure you that you're in excellent hands!
Our Nurse Practitioners are highly experienced clinicians with advanced training. They are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions, making them experts in managing many of the health problems that patients contact us about every day.
You may be offered an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner for a variety of common conditions and concerns, including:
โ
Coughs, colds, sore throats and chest infections
โ
Ear infections and sinus problems
โ
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
โ
Minor injuries such as sprains, strains and minor wounds
โ
Skin conditions such as rashes, eczema or infections
โ
Headaches and migraines
โ
Stomach upsets and abdominal pain
โ
Assessment of exacerbations of long-term conditions such as asthma/COPD
โ
And more!
Many patients find that an NP can provide exactly the same level of assessment and treatment they need, often with the added benefit of having dedicated time to discuss their concerns and treatment options.
By ensuring patients see the most appropriate clinician for their needs, we are able to:
๐ Reduce waiting times
๐ Improve access to appointments
๐ Ensure our GPs are available for patients with the most complex or specialist medical needs
๐ Make the very best use of the skills across our entire clinical team
Our GPs and NPs work closely together every day. If an NP feels that your condition requires GP input, they can discuss your care with a GP or arrange for you to be seen by one. Your care is always delivered as part of one team, with your health and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.
So, if you're offered an appointment with one of our Nurse Practitioners, please be reassured that this isn't a "second-best" option โ it's the right option.
Thank you for trusting us with your care. โค๏ธ
