As a qualified counsellor, I offer my clients a warm, supportive therapeutic relationship through which they can gain a greater insight into their issues, allowing them to find ways of managing their feelings, improving relationships and generally getting more out of life. My work is integrative with a base in Humanistic principles; this means that I believe in being genuine and non-judgemental an

d use a wide understanding of therapeutic approaches – as well as personal experience – to inform my understanding. Being empathetic – seeing the world through my client’s eyes – is an important part of how I work. I have over 9 years of counselling experience working with children and adults in a variety of settings, and have been privileged to work with people of varying backgrounds and with different issues. Reason’s clients come to counselling may include stress, relationship breakdown, bereavement, feelings of depression or anxiety but could be anything in their life that is causing them difficulty or suffering.

"And" is a powerhouse of a word, therapeutically speaking.

Being human means having a lot of feelings. Saying "but" makes us feel conflicted, whereas "and" allows for the complexity of emotions.
Life can be complicated and people are not just one thing."And" allows us to embrace our different parts, our multiple layers of being and accept nuance.

Some examples:
🌿 You can want to protect your own peace *and* be informed about world events
🌿 You can care deeply about others *and* need to step away sometimes so you don't get overwhelmed
🌿 You can love someone *and* know it's not good for you to be in a relationship with them
🌿 You can like children *and* not want any of your own
🌿 You can feel afraid *and* know that you are safe

What are the "and" statements you need to allow? Feel free to share them in the comments!

By "boring" I mean: repetitive, tricky, quiet, slow etc. But the results? Not boring at all!

The next wheel of the year event is here!

🌾 Lammas (or Lughnasadh): an ancient harvest festival that invites us to pause, rest, take stock & celebrate.

Social media obviously isn't the place for much nuance or in depth discussion but I wanted to try and add some key points about attachment that I don't see on here *at all* (could be my algorithm?) but things all therapists know - at least I hope they are!

What did I miss?
Do you have any questions about attachment I can try to answer?

I went to see perform Romeo & Juliet the other day and added Shakespeare to my list of quotes about slowing down.

If you have a quote to add to this collection, share it in the comments!

My seasonal balance blogs take a look at seasonal wellbeing through the lens of qigong/traditional Chinese Medicine, nature connection, mindfulness and positive psychology.
🔥❤️ In TCM this is the season of fire and the heart
☀️ 💐 In nature it's a time of light and abundance
Both of these suggest joy, energy and warmth. All good things....but you can have too much of a good thing!

⚖️ In the blog I discuss the potential for burnout and how we can take steps towards balance this season - because we need different things at different times of year and a t different times in our lives.

Balance - the holy grail of health. A subjective, ephemeral, elusive state that we all aspire to. As someone interested in a variety of holistic, psychological and spiritual approaches to mental health I’ve come to notice that there is something that everything I’ve encountered - so far - has in...

I'm back from a beautiful weekend by the sea and feel restored. I'm almost militant about planning holidays and days out, as well as "nothing" days and chill evenings, because I know my wellbeing depends on them.

Actually, it's an existential issue. Without joy, adventure & positive experiences, life loses its meaning. Life becomes a check list of tasks and responsibilities. But those are things you do (some of them important, yes) which is not quite the same as who you *are*.

Enjoying your life is not a luxury. It's essential to prevent (& manage) depression and other serious mental illnesses. We always think people get depressed because of bad things happening, which of course can be the case, but more often - in my experience from 12+ years of counselling - it's more about what hasn't happened. A lack of joy, meaning, connection & enjoyment. And even when it is because of a trauma or series of negative events, the lack of enjoyment makes recovery harder and longer.

Sometimes, enjoyable moments fall in our lap. They can be small things - a cup of tea in the morning sun, watching a favourite film with your partner, a nice walk in the park. But quite often we have to make time and space for enjoyment. Actually think about what you'd like to do and prepare. It might seem paradoxical that enjoyment can take effort but sometimes it does! That's also part of the point - you then learn that you are worth that effort. The quality of your life matters.

Job satisfactionmaxxing!
What a beautiful last day we had - well done Counselling Skills Level 3s, class or 2026! 🎉🎓
My main feeling is one of immense gratitude: for such a lovely class of kind and self aware women, for Laura - the colleague of dreams - and for being able to do meaningful work I genuinely love.

1. Cute class photo
2. The class photo when you ask a man to take it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤭
3. Some tools of the trade I brought in to show the students. Many of them are going on to do more training so there's some summer reading inspo
4. Brandy, a student's guide dog, sitting at my feet whilst I'm doing some marking - I will miss her as much as the students!
5. Last day emotions
6 & 7. Beautiful gifts from a beautiful class.
8. My last day photo - 14 years ago!!!
