This week we are giving tips and info to help people who have busy minds and find it difficult to switch off.
no.5 - quiet
Following n in a way from yesterday’s post about stillness, some people struggle with silence or quiet. If you are someone who is often busy or always on the go silence can sometimes feel uncomfortable.
Some people are often worried about silence and how they will be alone with their thoughts but teaching meditation once these people have started to learn meditation they seem to become more comfortable with silence and being with their thoughts and minds.
A possible way to get used to quiet is to start to introduce parts of your day where there is quiet and allow contemplation where thoughts come in and drift off. For example, you might try turning the radio off in the car sometimes.
Becoming comfortable with silence and your mind I personally think is really powerful and a great skill to learn. It might not feel easy but much better than ignoring or shutting out thoughts in your mind. If you struggle with lots of thoughts you might find journaling and writing them down helps to get them out of your head.
Recently I was talking to someone on the beginners meditation program and she realised she needed to become comfortable with being able to hear her own heartbeat.
