Have you seen the latest statement by our Chief Medical Officers on exercise (here in the UK)

“The evidence has strengthened for women. Evidence continues to show that if physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure, due to the great many illnesses it can prevent or treat. It is now clear that even small amounts of physical activity produce important benefits compared to none, and the benefits steadily increase up to the recommended 150 minutes a week.”

If exercise were a drug it would be a miracle cure!!! You cannot argue with that.

Mix it up, don’t just do cardio, weights etc, each has their important place but variety is key. Mix it up. Book a class, go with a friend, join a club, come on a midlife yoga & strength retreat!

What’s your go to and what would you like to try? Here’s a few of my favourites, yoga of course, swimming obvs, I love body pump too, my sup and mountain biking. The thing I need to do more is walk.

Keep moving, it’s the key to longevity 💪🏼🤸‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏄🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️

Life got just a little busy there

A big swim challenge then the challenge of organising and hosting a festival at home all within two weeks of each other. Not to mention my masters, metres and book.

It’s been a busy time.

So today I’ve booked into the spa, feet up, book in hand, to rest.

And soothe my nervous system

Life is busy, we are all busy, and on top of the busyness we pile on more busy.

Honestly, I have a pile of life admin to see to, a film night to plan and, and, and

But I could feel the tale tell signs of fatigue. The brain fog increased, I felt somewhat distracted and disconnected. My nervous system needed time to download, reset, to rest.

When we just keep on pushing through, things start to crumble.

So today, and most of tomorrow, I’ll be here, feet up, no distraction.

Do you struggle to prioritise rest? Comment REST & I’ll send you details of a brand new, small group retreat, the focus of which is how to rest ✨

Introducing How To Winter a small group retreat for women who need to slow down.

Welcome to North Star Retreat, welcome to my home. Has your previous experience of retreats been that it’s all felt a little big and overwhelming? As you navigate midlife do you find yourself preferring smaller groups to big gatherings? Then a retreat at North Star might be just what you are looking for.

Architectually designed North Star is tastefully decorated in a ‘Scandi Seaside’ style and set on a quarter acre country plot it feels like the middle of nowhere, yet we are just 7 minutes from the sea and coastal paths.

Who is this retreat for? We live in a world that never sleeps. As the year draws to a close, rather than drawing in, as the season suggests, we expand into the busyness of Christmas. Then, once Christmas is done, and January arrives we are left in a spin and wondering when the nights got dark and willing it to end. But winter is about slowing down, not speeding up, so this retreat is an invitation to find a space to rest before the festivities begin. How to winter will help you embrace a slower pace of life.

You can find full details on my website, link in comments. Get in touch to discuss your room preferences, two kings for solo use and one twin available. Open for women wanting a smaller group connection or a group of four friends looking for a different kind of break together.

Save this post and share it with all the women in your life who need a nurturing break

As I head towards my 60th birthday and writing my book along the way I’ve been thinking a lot about my life and the phases & stages I’ve been through.

I had a lovely childhood, wonderful parents, not a lot of money but that was made up for in love and time they gave us. The informative years.

I was however pregnant & married by 20 and spent the next 20 years in a not so happy marriage, working hard to give my 3 children the childhood I’d enjoyed whilst working full time, doing all the parenting, household management and studying. Looking back it felt like survival.

But then on my 40th birthday my life began again. I broke free and really began to live. I worked hard at my career, made progression, traveled, took up hobbies, undertook challenges, had a career pivot after training to be a yoga teacher at 51. During this time I sadly lost both my parents. Definitely highs & lows but I was striving and it felt good.

As I turn 60 I’m on a new adventure, I’m competing a masters & writing a book. I see another new chapter coming and main character energy rising.

What I’ve learned is this. Life has good times & bad times. Yes, resilience plays its part, but so does mindset. The lens through which we navigate life is an important one. If it’s clouded and looking for failure, guess what? That’s what you’ll see. Looking through life with a lens of hope, understanding, forgiveness, possibility, well, that really can change the experience.

Reframe is the name of the midlife yoga & strength retreat I cohost. We help women navigate midlife with useful tools to help everyday. We’ve had a cancellation, life ties get in the way sometimes, but it’s the master king and a really special room. A magical weekend. Will you join us and see how you can reframe your midlife? Pop me a message for more information

And save this post for when you need a reminder that life goes in cycles, when we stop seeing ageing as a negative (try levelling up instead) it really does feel good ✨

You’re probably used to seeing me in the water, but being on the water was my first love. There’s a certain kind of serenity that comes from being on the water, floating along, lost in your own thoughts. I usually like paddling alone, the serenity is what I crave. But last week was different.

Three years ago I introduced an almost 3 year old Finley to paddle boarding. Last week 6 year old Finley took a board out on his own with Nana swimming alongside.

I love sharing my hobbies with my family. Each year we meet in the lakes and this year we walked and climbed mountains together, swam and dipped in waterfalls, although I like cycling I don’t join in the bike ride nowadays as it’s too much single track and I’m just too clumsy but it’s another family favourite and we all love playing board games at night.

The only thing I kept to myself this time was yoga. That was my own practice, my own time. I took a whole month off teaching but looking forward to being back on the mat tomorrow. Yoga, tools for menopause, Tuesday at 18:30 on zoom. Come and try it for yourself, this week we’ll ease back in, next week we’ll add some resistance.

Tell me, what’s the hobby you most love to share and why?
