Today was one of those days that reminds you that leadership in care extends far beyond audits, occupancy, staffing and compliance.

We had to say goodbye to our much-loved resident cat, and the loss has been felt deeply throughout the home. Pets become part of the fabric of a care community. They provide comfort, companionship, routine and unconditional affection, not only to our residents but also to our dedicated team.

As a Home Manager, I often focus on supporting others through difficult moments, but today I found myself sharing in the same sense of loss felt by residents and staff alike.

It has been an emotional and draining day. Moments like these are a reminder that care homes are so much more than workplaces. They are homes in every sense of the word, built on relationships, compassion and the bonds we create with one another.

Tonight, my thoughts are with everyone who loved our special companion. 🐾
