Has anyone else breathed a little sigh of relief now the temperatures have eased?

After weeks of hot weather, many of us are finding it much easier to get back outside for a walk, a run or simply to enjoy being active again. But while it's cooler, it's still worth remembering that your body may be recovering from the effects of exercising in the heat.

If you've been feeling more tired than usual, experiencing muscle cramps, headaches or just not quite yourself, dehydration and overexertion during the hotter days may still be playing a part.

Taking things steadily, drinking plenty of water and listening to your body are just as important now as they were during the heatwave. Heat and exercise place extra strain on the body, so it's sensible to ease back into your normal routine rather than trying to make up for lost time.

If aches, pains or niggling injuries are stopping you from enjoying your favourite activities, don't ignore them. A little advice and treatment now could prevent a bigger problem later.

Our latest blog shares practical tips on exercising safely during the summer months, whatever the weather decides to do!

Ever notice you feel better on holiday – sleeping more, moving more and feeling less stressed?

It’s easy to overindulge when you’re taking a break from everyday life, but some habits we form on holidays can improve both our physical and mental health and are worth introducing back home.

“With extra time to focus on yourself, you can more easily get perspective on what makes you feel good and come up with new intentions,” says Dr Anna Forbes, founder of the Forbes Clinic and specialist in integrative medicine.

Could five minutes of movement change how you feel?

It doesn't have to be an intense workout to make a difference.

This gentle five-minute mobility routine from Joe Wicks includes seven low-impact exercises designed to help you move more freely and feel calmer.

As physiotherapists, we're big believers that movement doesn't have to be complicated. Gentle mobility exercises can help reduce stiffness, improve flexibility, and encourage your body to move more comfortably – especially if you've been sitting for long periods or are easing back into activity.

Why not give it a try and see how you feel afterwards?

Fitness coach Joe Wicks shares an exclusive mobility and stretching routine. (If you’re not used to exercise, do check with a doctor first.)

🎾 Inspired by Wimbledon?

There’s nothing quite like watching the world’s best tennis players in action to make you want to pick up a racket again.

Whether you’re a regular player, haven’t played for years, or simply enjoy a friendly game in the sunshine, tennis is a fantastic way to stay active – but it can also place extra demands on your body.

The quick changes of direction, sudden stops, repetitive movements and powerful swings all require strength, mobility and flexibility.

A few simple habits can help you enjoy the game and reduce your risk of injury:

✅ Warm up before you play
✅ Build up your activity gradually
✅ Strengthen the muscles that support your joints
✅ Listen to your body and don’t ignore ni**les

If you’re returning to tennis this summer or struggling with an ache that’s holding you back, our latest blog shares some simple tips to help you stay on court and enjoy the sport you love.

As physiotherapists, we see this every day. You don't need to be perfect – you just need to keep showing up. If you're looking for a healthier, more active future, start with one manageable change and let it build from there.

Exercising Safely in Hot Weather: What Your Body Needs This Summer
There’s something about summer that makes us want to get moving.

Perhaps it’s the longer days, the warmer weather or the inspiration that comes from watching world-class sporting events. Recent weeks have seen Wimbledon capture our attention once again. The World Cup has reminded us not only of the excitement of sport but also of the kindness, sportsmanship, and sense of community it can create.

Whether it’s encouraged you to dust off a tennis racket, kick a football around with family. Heading out for longer walks or simply spending more time outdoors, exercising safely in hot weather, is worth considering.

But there’s one important thing to remember… your body doesn’t know it’s summer.

☀️ Hot weather and your body: a little extra care goes a long way. ☀️

Summer is a great time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and stay active – whether that’s walking, gardening, playing sport or simply making the most of longer days.

A few simple reminders:

💧 Stay hydrated
🚶 Choose cooler times of the day for exercise
🧘 Take time to stretch and warm up
👂 Listen to your body – those small aches are often worth paying attention to

Remember, physiotherapy isn’t just for injuries. It’s about helping you stay mobile, active and able to enjoy the things you love – whatever your age, activity level or the weather!!

If a ni**le is stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, the team at Sarum Physio is here to help.
