So many girls are missed because their autism does not always look the way people expect.

They may seem to be coping, have friends, do well at school, or stay out of trouble. What many people do not see is the exhaustion, anxiety, sensory overwhelm and constant effort it can take to get through the day.

Many girls learn to hide their struggles, copy others and mask how they really feel. As a result, they are often misunderstood, overlooked, or identified much later than they should be.

When we only look for the signs people expect to see, we risk missing the girls who need understanding and support the most.

The more we understand how autism can present differently in girls, the more likely they are to be recognised, accepted and supported.

Please share - someone in your network may see a girl they know in this and gain a better understanding of what she is experiencing.
