Ana Mendieta today

I don’t know if anything needs to said about these images as they are quite self explanatory

The body, caves, fire, ritual.. form

Interaction with the environment, natural materials

Feathers, clay, sand, water, stone, wood

A lovely bit of parachute play whilst teaching at a school

~

Ana Mendieta tragically died by falling off an apartment building in 1985 age 36 where she and her more renowned husband Carl Andre (minimalist sculpture) lived

He was suspected, charged with murder and acquitted, but the story goes she was known to be ‘fiery’..

There something innate about this work, throughout the ages there’s been a need for humans to make a mark, and see human/goddess form

I’ve definitely been inspired by her work in the past

In this increasingly heated world

I feel like I’ve been here there and everywhere and yet still the stillness has been swirly

Summer holidays, I’ve read a huge amount

A gory Sumerian inspired novel about the the female goddess Innana, a meandering Russian novel about a female author who does a disappearing act, prose around the colour Blue, The New History of Humanity by David Graeber and here, the quote from Parable of a Sower by Octavia Butler

I’ve been teaching 1-2’s/1-1’s, occasional classes & the corporate class everyday I’ve been home, but also ping ponging around trying to get the kids out and about in the UK

This weekend, visiting my brother in his new abode in Whitstable

Being visited by a pigeon on the window sill

Tired through the upper body, I eventually realised this was from teaching a vinyasa flow class Wednesday evening in the lovely dusk lit room at Satyam 💪

Lovely Rachel’s 50th bday gathering of all the good things ~ sauna, swim & unreserved chat!

9 of Pentacles here, reassuringly

‘symbolises financial independence, self-sufficiency, and luxury. It shows that your hard work has paid off, allowing you to relax, enjoy the finer things in life, and appreciate the secure world you have built for yourself.’

Here’s hoping..

September ~ join me for the Monday online course

6 sessions (60mins) live and recorded exploring a wonderful system of understanding energy and prana within the body, the Vayu’s ~ the gentle/strong aspects of grounding/descending/rooting, upward rising ascending energy, assimilation/core/digestive capacity

It’s a gorgeous and intentional way to practice which is more Qi Gong than other ways to practice yoga, and therefore way more effective as you begin to hone that full body/mind connection

Full of potency and absorption in being ness

EMBODIED VAYU’s, starts 14/09

Please book in via the website

Sessions on zoom, often folks catch up with recordings but there’s always a small group practicing together

Welcome to join us on this course if in 2nd/3rd trimester of pregnancy, the group is diverse - sessions are modified to everyone’s needs

+ to finish a book I’ve spied by Alice Oswald about the River Dart - for next yrs charity swim

So what did I do to celebrate my 41st bday last week…
with the undoubtedly huge full moon energy..

As standard I went coasteering for the first time (very serious business no photos taken sadly!) and worked my way up to jumping off a 14m cliff - see pic, pretty high up ⬆️ and way beyond my harbour wall jump of May (which was tiddly in comparison and way less windy)

My 14 YT old outdid me + jumped the 20m highest point as depicted in the photo of him holding his cap on

This felt ‘suicide’ jump height to me - I had decided to go for it until my leg went besserk and started vigorously shaking

The coasteering guy Tom said he’s jumped from Dunstonburgh, which is a 60m jump where you have a drop a huge stone to break the water just before you hit water

We were warned about specific technique so not to dislocate shoulders 😆

Yes this is how I celebrate getting older, not necessarily wiser but more willing to test the boundaries around fear..

Heights were never something I particularly loved.. particularly after having kids where I experienced a fair bit of vertigo from even being sat up high in specific theatres in London (they can be so steep!)

So this is new territory

I might have not had any cake, but I did find a 🥀 on the beach + drank a delicious 0.5% hoppy fizz ale thing

Still owed a cake though.. 🎂

Just because it feels good

Not for any other reason

And there was no specific other intention but to explore

No one knew, least of all I, that I would exit out of savasana with a backward roll!

No dogma, just play

The ‘old fashioned’ way of doing things..

Before Instagram + Facebook, we had posters

Emails… letters..

Community boards

Just nailed a bunch of laminated posters up in the local area

After class in Cambridge in the renewed/refreshed studio for Satyam

Nowadays we all tend towards algorithmic boxes on our phones watching people do stuff online etc. and there is a value in that yes, I also teach online which creates more accessibility for those who can’t make the session live

But I’m keen to explore doing things the slow way, which may be less efficient

But relies way less on data + algorithms

Yoga in the community..

£10 off for those who choose to sign up for both Wednesday + Friday morning in-person with access to the online course recordings

Let’s practice in person in a small group that goes beyond our little box or bubble online

These sessions are communities within a community

NEW CLASS from September!

Yokingisyoga 😜 in Newnham, Cambridge

Expect somatically-infused Hatha, grounded in the 8 limbs with a trauma-informed embodied anatomy

Come practice and cultivate ✨community in the beautiful light infused space _the_breathing_space_

A bit of info..

‘Yoga, translated from Sanskrit means to yoke, to unite, to bring together or connect. This is a central concept yoga in general, and to the sessions that Katherine leads.

She brings people of all abilities together in a non-competitive environment, to enjoy highlighting the unity mind, body and breath. Raising conscious awareness through mindful practice, Katherine will encourage you and hold the space to introduce radical acceptance of what you experience on, and perhaps also off the mat.

This movement practice includes functional movement and embodiment techniques to enliven, release, strengthen, and cultivate balance.

Katherine is soon to be fully qualified Yoga Therapist with The Minded Institute, and is a fully qualified 500hr BWY yoga teacher having facilitated a wide range of classes and retreats in and around Cambridge since 2018. She is trauma-informed, teaching with invitational cues, with options and no hierarchy.’

Testimonials from Katherine’s existing clients

Adjustments and options are excellently and clearly given to yogis, without being at all judgemental. I found the teacher knowledgeable, engaging and encouraging development of all in the class.’
J (yoga teacher)

I really recommend Katherine’s class. A wonderfully slow and calming class which can challenge and strengthen wherever you are with your yoga. I’ve found the sessions are a little holiday from the world around me and are comparable to an hour long massage!
H (primary school teacher)

‘I have to say how much I enjoy your yoga classes. Always leave feeling much brighter and your tones / instructions really help with finding lovely space focus! I find your class deeply reassuring; both on a bodily level and feeling of being supported within online class group.’

More from the tiger lily

What an abundant RESET this morning

A group of 6 have been practicing with me for at least the last 6 weeks

Yoking • mind to breath • breath to body

Consistent practice with a group is really beneficial

The little communities that spring up around these sessions brings much sustenance

So much gratitude for the space in-between

Until next term! RESET starts back September 4th for 8 weeks
