A VISIT FROM SCARBOROUGH COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING INSTITUTE

It was a pleasure to welcome Emily Rooney to Ark House Rehab yesterday to show her around the treatment centre, give her an idea of how a day works for our clients here and meet with the team.

Emily is Executive Director of the Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute where Ark House team member (and former resident) Dannielle, has been undertaking her training in Relational Psychotherapeutic Counselling, which she is now practising within Ark House Rehab.

Our treatment approach at Ark House is holistic and person-centred, addressing every aspect of your recovery and includes
professional therapy, delivered by qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who understand addiction from lived experience.

Building relationships within the community is of utmost importance to the team at Ark House so we really appreciate Emily taking time out to visit us.

PLEASE VISIT THEIR WEBSITE FOR MORE INFOMATION

Dannielle and Emily also spoke to each other for a future episode of IN RECOVERY - THE ARK HOUSE podcast - debunking the myths of counselling and giving advice to those who may be hesitant in getting the help they need.

After a fabulously fun caberet night at SCPTI, to mark the end of the academic year AND the final year of training for some, we complete our final day of the shame module here on the Relational Integrative Psychotherapy diploma. A week of exploring deep aspects of shame, pride, envy and jeslousy, as responses and adaptations to survival, connection, loss, pain, trauma, injustice, disparity, threats or abandonment. Here, trainees 're-author' their shame pictures from Wednesday morning: "The story I'm practicing now is......"

Day 3 on the Relational Integrative Psychotherapy masters diploma and now we move to the pride emotion. Do we feel met in our achievements, excitement and qualities? Or are we met with disappointment, criticism or dismissiveness? We look at how we identify as 'success' (proud) or 'failure' (Shame) depending on how those around us in childhood respond to us in connection.

We're hosting our final module of this academic year on the Relational Integrative Psychotherapy masters diploma.
Introducing what is considered the 'master emotion', we began discussing shame's history in more basic early human groups and it's role in survival, safety and belonging, which is mirrored across most living species. This led to vital and more complex dialogue around shame's role in more modern areas of social media, cancelling culture and radicalisation.
We end the day where trainees begin externalising and creating their own image of shame.

Train as a Relational Integrative Psychotherapist and discover a deeply human, relational and developmental approach to therapy. At SCPTI, we explore how our early relationships shape the patterns we carry into adult life, and how, through authentic therapeutic connection, these patterns can be understood, integrated, and transformed. Our training blends leading psychological theories with experiential learning, group process, and supervised skills practice, supporting you to develop as an authentic, compassionate, and trauma-aware therapist. It’s more than a course, it’s an in depth journey of personal and professional growth, helping you become a grounded, ethical practitioner who can confidently support others toward an integrated, self-aware and connected version of themselves.
Apply at www.scpti.co.uk or [email protected] for more info' for this September!
