I used to think being a good therapist meant constantly doing something.

Moving into the next technique. Filling every second. Making sure the treatment felt like it had “enough” in it.

When I gained confidence I stopped feeling like I had to constantly do something and started trusting the slower moments, the pauses and the transitions.

Sometimes confidence isn’t about doing more.

It’s knowing when to do less 🧡

One of the biggest things I brought from massage into my facials was… massage.

Not just learning more facial techniques, but having an understanding about touch, pressure, pace, transitions and how to move around the body without the treatment ever feeling disconnected.

And I genuinely think it’s one of the reasons my facials became some of my most booked treatments.

You can have incredible products, beautiful equipment and all the skin knowledge in the world — but your hands are part of the experience too.

If you’re a facialist wanting to elevate the way your treatments feel, I’d really encourage you to put some time into your massage skills.

Because sometimes it isn’t about adding more to the treatment.

It’s about getting better at what your client is already feeling 🧡

I used to think being good at what I do meant collecting more qualifications.

And while training and education absolutely matter, I’ve realised that so much of what I bring into my treatment room was never taught on a course.

It’s come from life.

From being a mum. From difficult experiences. From being incredibly aware of the people around me. From noticing tiny changes in someone’s energy, body language or tone.

And I think it’s also where a lot of my drive comes from.

That constant need to keep learning, keep improving and keep pushing myself. To not give up when something doesn’t work and, if I’m being completely truthful, to prove to myself just how much I’m capable of.

For a long time, I probably saw some of those parts of myself as weaknesses.

Now I can see how much they’ve shaped the way I work.

They’re why I care so much about how someone feels in my space. Why I notice the little things. Why “good enough” rarely feels good enough to me.

Qualifications can teach you the treatment.

But sometimes it’s everything you’ve lived through that shapes the therapist you become. 🧡

Creating a more luxurious treatment doesn’t always mean adding more.

Sometimes it’s noticing the things that are already within your control.

The warmth of the bed.
The lighting.
The sounds around you.
The way you prepare the space — and yourself — before your client arrives.

They might never consciously notice every one of those decisions, but they can feel the difference they create.

For me, the experience isn’t just what happens during the treatment. It’s everything that helps someone feel safe enough to truly switch off.

If I had to start my business again, these are a few things I’d do all over again 🧡

Find the thing you genuinely love and want to be known for. Focus on quality rather than feeling pressured to constantly post. Learn how to create content that makes people feel something — and stop worrying so much about who’s watching.

Instagram genuinely changed everything for my business. It gave me a way to share something I was passionate about and turn it into a fully booked diary.

I’ve learnt a lot along the way… maybe it’s time I started sharing more of it 👀

There’s a reason this kind of touch feels so good…

For me, touch is never just about performing a movement. It’s intentional.

It’s the way my whole hand meets the body. The pressure. The pace. The confidence behind it. Allowing one movement to fully finish before flowing into the next.

I want my touch to feel secure — like my hands know exactly where they’re going, even when the person receiving the treatment doesn’t.

Because sometimes it isn’t a new technique that transforms a treatment.

It’s changing the way you touch.

This is something I explore much more deeply inside The Halcyon Mindset — created for therapists who want to bring more intention, confidence and depth into the way they work 🧡

Touch is something I’ve become incredibly intentional about.

Not necessarily the techniques I’m using, but how my hands actually feel to the person receiving them.

How I make contact. How I hold the body. How I transition from one movement to another. Even how my hands eventually leave.

I want my touch to feel secure, reassuring and purposeful — but most importantly, I want the treatment to flow in a way that allows the mind to stop trying to work out what’s coming next.

I think sometimes, as therapists, we can become so focused on what we’re doing that we forget to think about how it feels to receive it.

And that’s something I’ll always come back to 🧡
