We are lacing up our trainers, getting muddy, and pushing ourselves well and truly out of our comfort zones! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

This year, our team is coming together to tackle three incredible events to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UKโ€”a cause that means so much to many of us, both personally and professionally.

Weโ€™ll be taking on:
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Hull Pretty Muddy โ€“ ready for the mud and obstacles!
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ York 10K โ€“ pounding the city pavements.
๐Ÿš‚ East Coast Chuffer โ€“ a unique coastal adventure.

Each event is a challenge in its own right, but weโ€™re doing it together with one shared goal: to help fund life-saving research. Cancer has touched so many lives, and by supporting our page, youโ€™re helping bring us closer to a future where more people survive.

โค๏ธ Every single pound makes a difference, no matter the size.

Cervical screening can save lives ๐Ÿ’™

Cervical screening (previously called a smear test) is a quick and simple test that checks the health of your cervix and helps prevent cervical cancer ๐Ÿ‘

Itโ€™s offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64, with invitations sent every 5 years ๐Ÿ“…

The test doesnโ€™t check for cancer itself โ€“ it looks for a virus called HPV, which can cause changes to the cells in your cervix. These changes can be treated early to stop cancer developing ๐Ÿ’‰

At your appointment, a small sample of cells is taken from your cervix by a nurse or doctor. It only takes a few minutes, and youโ€™ll be supported throughout to make you as comfortable as possible ๐Ÿค

Even if you feel well and have no symptoms, itโ€™s important to attend your screening when invited โ€“ itโ€™s one of the best ways to protect your health ๐Ÿ’™

Know your skin. It could save your life ๐Ÿ’™

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but spotting the signs early can make a big difference to treatment and outcomes ๐Ÿ‘

A helpful way to check your moles is the ABCDE checklist:
โ€ข A โ€“ Asymmetry: one half doesnโ€™t match the other
โ€ข B โ€“ Border: edges are irregular, ragged or blurred
โ€ข C โ€“ Colour: uneven or multiple shades
โ€ข D โ€“ Diameter: larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
โ€ข E โ€“ Evolving: changing in size, shape, colour or feeling (e.g. itching or bleeding)

You should contact your GP if:
โ€ข a mole becomes painful, itchy, inflamed, bleeding or crusty
โ€ข you notice a new or unusual mark or lump that doesnโ€™t go away
โ€ข a mole changes or looks different from others

Melanoma can appear anywhere on the body, not just sun-exposed areas, so itโ€™s important to check your skin regularly ๐Ÿ‘€

Menโ€™s Health Week is a great time to learn more about cancers that only affect men ๐Ÿ’™

Some cancers specifically affect men, including prostate, testicular and pe**le cancer. These cancers develop in parts of the male reproductive system and can affect people at different stages of life ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

For example:
โ€ข Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland and is the most common cancer in men in the UK
โ€ข Testicular cancer often affects younger men and may present as a lump or swelling
โ€ข Pe**le cancer is rare but can develop on or under the fo****in

Treatments can vary depending on the type and stage of cancer, but may include surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with support available throughout ๐Ÿ’™

Itโ€™s important to know your body and speak to a healthcare professional if something doesnโ€™t feel right. Early detection can make a big difference ๐Ÿ‘

This message is inclusive of trans women and non-binary people (assigned male at birth), who can also be affected by these cancers and should feel supported to seek advice ๐Ÿ’™

โค๏ธ Give blood. Save lives.

Donating blood is one of the simplest ways you can make a life-saving difference. Every donation can help patients in emergencies, during surgery, or those living with long-term conditions ๐Ÿ’‰

Itโ€™s quick, safe and takes around an hour, but the impact can last a lifetime. In fact, one donation can help save up to three lives ๐Ÿ™Œ

Most people aged 17โ€“65 who are fit and healthy can donate, and youโ€™ll be fully supported through the process to make sure itโ€™s safe for you and the patient ๐Ÿ‘

Blood is always in high demand, and new donors are needed all the time to make sure thereโ€™s enough for everyone who needs it ๐Ÿ’™
