🎉 Forest for Cornwall are thrilled to announce that we have secured FOUR MORE YEARS OF FUNDING from the DEFRA Trees Programme 🎉

🌳 This further funding boost of £8.7 million will enable this Cornwall Council project to continue to grow, driving positive change and carrying on the brilliant work of the team and all of you that have got involved so far ... and all those to come! It's also national recognition of the success of our accessible and flexible approach to supporting and financing tree planting 🌳

🤝 The team will continue to support town and parish councils, communities, farmers, landowners, businesses and organisations to plant trees to increase productivity, sustain the local economy, improve health and happiness, and boost nature and respond to climate change by creating a greener, more resilient region.

🌟 Together an incredible 2 million trees have now been planted in a huge range of projects all across Cornwall .

When Lucky Bunting became entangled in a trawl net, her future looked uncertain. Thankfully she was successfully rescued and released straight back into the wild 🦭

Through sightings recorded by Seal Research Trust's volunteer network, Lucky has been identified on multiple occasions and has since been confirmed as the mother of several pups 💙

From a life-threatening entanglement to raising the next generation of seals, Lucky's journey is a wonderful example of the lasting impact of wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and monitoring 🔭

Did you know that Risso's dolphins spend their summers around the South West coast, often visiting areas rich in seagrass meadows? 🐬

Why? They're following their favourite food! 🦑 Cuttlefish gather in these areas to lay their eggs, creating a seasonal feeding hotspot for these remarkable dolphins. Risso's are also increasingly being seen around reef systems, where cuttlefish lay eggs on seaweed and octopus hide amongst the rocks 🪸

These dolphins are impressive travellers too. By matching individuals through photographs, University of Exeter eruni tracked Risso's dolphins moving between Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, with some journeying as far as the Isle of Man and even Brittany, France!

The return of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna to UK waters is fantastic news, but to ensure their comeback lasts - it's important to understand what tuna are eating and how much 🐟💙

Feeding the Comeback is uncovering the key prey species that sustain bluefin tuna, helping to protect the food sources they rely on and providing the evidence needed for future marine management.

The results will help support the continued recovery of Bluefin Tuna, healthier seas, and thriving coastal communities 🌊

This exciting project was supported through Cornwall Council's Climate & Nature Fund via their Crowdfunder campaign ⚡️

🦈 The Nursehound (also known as the Greater-spotted Catshark or Bull Huss) is a shark that lives close to the seabed among rocky reefs and algae-covered habitats. By day, it rests in rocky crevices, emerging at night to hunt squid, octopus, crabs, shrimp and small fish 🐟

As part of ongoing marine research, the Marine Biology Life of University of Exeter has captured underwater footage of Nursehounds using Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems (BRUVS). These underwater cameras help researchers monitor marine wildlife and test how effective BRUVS can be for surveying species in our coastal waters 🌊
