Algarve Yoga Retreat - June 2027

Another room has been reserved this week!

So why do I announce my yoga retreats so early?

Well the first reason is that I can’t contain my excitement. I’ve had this retreat venue ready to launch for over 18 months. There’s so much planning behind the scenes for a retreat, the yoga is such a small part of it.

The second reason is that you are all busy. You need to schedule in the time now in order to make sure you book the time before anyone else books your time for you.

We are on the conveyor belt of eat, work, sleep, repeat. It’s mundane and boring but essential in so many ways. You may be a care giver, parent, I bet whatever role you have in life there is someone needing your attention.

But what if you come along for a week with a wonderful group of people who get to know you for you. We have the conversations, real lovely conversations without any agenda. Normally without knowing each other beforehand so we do not know each other’s past. You arrive as you are. You state your intentions. Many say, all they want is some peace and quiet and to finish a book for the first time in years. They promptly treat themselves to an early night every single night.

Many make friends that are genuine friendships. The yoga retreat experience really is like no other. And I’m fortunate to have the best community. I really do. Many return year after year but each time we welcome new friends.

It’s without a doubt the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself. You just need to take the leap and book. What are you waiting for?

Where did ‘normal’ yoga go?

Every time I open up the socials I’m bombarded by new ways to interest the masses. There’s even a place I saw that makes it so accessible it just plays videos of a Pilates instructor for you to follow along. There’s no teacher, no set time to meet others there.

You need to prioritise your self care. You need to carve out the time and find the teacher that resonates with you. Online videos are great but they’ll never ever compare to the community of a class. Studies of shown that being in a class environment having a shared experience increases self awareness and healing. You experience a sense of belonging reducing feelings of loneliness which automatically lowers stress and improves mental health.

We need to stop making it all accessible. We are all busy, yes. But find the time for at least one class a week. Your body, mind, community and your in-person yoga teacher will thank you.

I offer classes in Berwick. There are a range of classes at different times that will always be a challenge to get to. Because, spoiler alert…. If you don’t make the time, it will be made for you. There will always be something else to do.

But it’s ok, you practise online later, but then you’re too tired, or the dog child (insert fun sponge) that will distract you. Am I right?

“Breathe in the stillness. Even quiet spaces can teach you loud things” - Bartholomew Henderson

It’s about reconnection, to yourself and to nature. Come and join me for this incredibly restful and rejuvenating yoga retreat in the Algarve from 5 - 11 June 2027.

You don’t need telling how amazing you’ll feel whilst you’re here. You already know that sense of disappointment when you missed out on this year’s retreat. You sat on the fence, unsure if the family would cope without you for the week. Whether you could really spend all that time with me and a group of other wonderful people.

Having a retreat booked is an indescribable feeling. It’s knowing you have something to look forward to, something for you and you alone. Many of my retreat guests return year after year because they know if they don’t schedule the time in themselves someone else will take that time and spend it for them.

It’s simple, hop online and realise there’s actually no rooms left. You panic. But your forward thinking yoga teacher has booked such a huge and beautiful venue that there’s a whole other house on site. So now there are 4 rooms left on this retreat. Please don’t wait to book your spot, you’ll really regret it this time next year 💕

Not everyone uses yoga as a spiritual practice. Some come to yoga looking to improve their backache or shoulder mobility or other physical ailment. They know they used to not groan and moan when they bent down to tie their laces and feel the effect of age or another exercise regime that has left them less flexible than before.

Embodied movement is about learning what your body can do. Too often we look for the correct way and want results and to see progress. Which is probably why the rise of reformer Pilates and weight training has become popular. But we were never supposed to move in a straight line. Our bodies are designed to flow, to expand and to create new breathable space. These other exercises are built around repetition.

Which I find boring, there I said it. I like being fully present and overthink which is my left hand when I’m asked to raise it for a breath or two. I think utilising ujjayi breathing rather than exhaling through the mouth as I know that only increases brain fog and lethargy. And I don’t need any more of that during my perimenopause journey.

I like to explore and not just count repetitions until I reach muscle fatigue. I like to move my body in all different directions and not up and down a machine that’s dictating my line.

I have been practicing yoga for so many years and still I’m finding more variations of poses to explore. I just need a mat, actually many times I don’t even need that. I practice in my pants and sports bra, I practice in full sweaty Betty yoga gear and a liforme mat and the practice is still mine.

I have punished my body through gym regimes in the past, running, chasing goals or times. Yoga is simply not like that. You might find a pose you’ve been trying for but every single time you bring something new to the mat. When you learn to embrace your body, lower cortisol through the breath and when to take rest. You find the spiritual side of yoga even when you’re not looking for it. Because you learn about yourself. You’re sending your attention and intention inwards and learn to love yourself. You don’t compare to others, then and only then do you achieve the body and mindset you’ve been searching for.

The style of yoga I teach 🙏

We have a saying in my classes…. Actually we have two 😜

We never use the word ‘easy’, these poses aren’t at all. It’s not meant to be. You need to safely challenge yourself to keep getting up and off the floor. Because modern life and technology is trying to keep us immobile. Making our day to day lives ‘easier’. But we are becoming stiff, but you know what it doesn’t matter as there are shoes without laces and stairlifts could well be in your future.

With any luck AI will take over your day to day living. Gardening, playing with the children and grandchildren. You’ll hire someone to make your bed and cook your tea for you because you can’t bend, twist or stand for very long. You won’t walk or drive.

We were only supposed to live for 50 years. Which means my body has 4 years left. That’s not ok. I refuse to believe or accept that. So I challenge myself and my yogis to keep finding what’s possible in their body. I keep breathing deeply and playing with my strength and mobility. It’s not all about flexibility, the strength stuff is hard I will admit that. We like to find the passive range of motion as it’s ‘easier’.

But what we can do is find the ‘more accessible’ version of the shape. We learn and adapt. And after a few classes this shape may change. And we move with that. Then our other saying ‘next week?’ Might actually become realised.

The saying ‘next week’ came about when I showed a group of yogis another version of a pose. Because there’s always another version to explore. There’s never a right way to ‘do’ the poses. Which is why I love yoga. It keeps me motivated and engaged. Never bored because every single class is different.

During our classes we explore so many different poses. You are invited to try some or none or even all of them. It’s a non dogmatic way of teaching but I’ll keep offering more, because I believe we are all trapped in the mindset that we can find an easier way of ‘doing’ yoga.

It’s not easy, it never will be. But just for that hour or so. You are fully embodied. You’ll know yourself better than you ever have before. And t

🙏Yoga classes in Berwick starting from Monday 1 June 🙏

Common misconception is that you need to be flexible to practice yoga. It’s the first thing anyone ever says to me… ‘you teach yoga? I can’t even touch my toes!’

Touching your toes is never the goal. Nailing the poses isn’t either.

It’s not Pilates, it’s not weight training or the more recent exercise styles that’s are out there to try and hook you in. It’s been around for 5000 years because it makes a difference. You will find a stronger body and mindset once you learn how to harness the breath. You have no idea how incredible your body is meant to feel until to practice yoga.

Practicing yoga takes discipline but it doesn’t need to be difficult. You need to show up in the first place. No one has ever felt better in their body by sitting on the sofa. No one has ever given space for their mind doom scrolling.

Yoga is about finding that space. Space between two breaths where you’re not thinking of your to do list. Finding yourself in final relaxation at the end of class, noticing those little aches and pains you’ve associated with old age just aren’t there. You’ve gifted yourself an hour or so to connect with like minded people, enjoy a laugh or two and just focused on your breath. Yoga teaches you how to manage your breath to deal with everyday anxieties and stresses.

There is really nothing to lose but so much to gain coming along to a class with me.
It doesn’t matter you’re brand new or have lost a practice you’ve previously enjoyed. Come, you’re welcomed as you are. I have the most lovely community so lean in and join us… you really won’t regret it.

Full timetable is on the website. I have a beginner level class and dynamic Hatha and vinyasa flow styles for those that would like a more experienced class. You’re always encouraged to practice at your level, modifying for your unique body and mindset.

Once upon a time there was a girl living in London. She didn’t really know where she was going or who she really was. But she knew if she kept her head down, said yes to everyone she might be liked. If she just worked hard she’d find her place in this world. If she showed up to every social occasion maybe she’d be remembered as the one who was life and soul of the party. She was loud, extroverted and a pretty ok person.

Fast forwards 20 years. 46 year old me is the exact opposite. I actually don’t like lots of people, I prefer more meaningful 1-1 or small group connections. I hold my boundaries pretty firmly and say no if it doesn’t sit right for me. My inner circle is getting smaller as I really appreciate honest and genuine people and memorable experiences.

What changed in that 20 years? My discovery of yoga and living a yogic path. I’ve spent time learning who I actually am rather than what society expects of me. I don’t do well with late nights and definitely do not welcome stress into my life. But when it does arrive I know how to cope. I do not bury my head and hope it will go away or use distraction coping behaviours. I’ve spent time with myself and befriended myself. I quiet that inner critic constantly and make the micro adjustments needed to live the best version of myself so I do not burn out. I do not get ill. In the beginning yoga was about learning what my body can do and now I appreciate and love that my practice brings me back home to myself.

Yoga is not an exercise. It’s not repetition of a few moves on a mat. That might be why you come to yoga in the first place; for freedom in your movements, helping you thrive in your mobility and that’s more than fine. But it’s the tip of a very big iceberg. Yoga is more than you can ever imagine. You learn to better your life for you. To gift yourself the chance to know the you that’s been there all along. To quiet the constant life noise around you and take the simplicity of a full breath at your own pace.

It’s not magic, it’s not a body workout (although after a few classes with me you may think so), it’s about concentrating on nothing else but the present. And when was the last time you did that?

Yoga is the only class that’s been placed in the ‘exercise’ section of life that offers you so much more than a fit body. I just have no idea why everyone doesn’t commit to a regular practice. It’s important. You are important and you need yoga.

Classes are available in Berwick or online. Link in bio for my website. I really hope to see you on the mat soon 💕

I found the most incredible retreat venue… the most stunning views, 2 minutes walk to 3 beaches that had crystal clear water. There were 3 shalas that, as a yoga teacher we could only ever dream about teaching in.

I organised, I planned, I made sure every single part of this trip was everything to everybody. My yogis are tired and burnt out and I wanted them to be cared for, nourished and happy.

This is an honest post, because there’s no point showing only the good bits like this reel. Many people might not even take the time to read this.

This retreat was a massive learning experience for me. One of my yogis said ‘in many ways the retreat offered something far more meaningful than perfection’. And I need to lean into that. I am a perfectionist. I over analyse and perfect every single thing I do.

But this was out of my control. We landed in Kefalonia in the most horrific rain storm which delayed our boat crossing. My community came together to support each other but it really wasn’t the ideal arrival.
Fast forward to the retreat venue and when we arrived. The owner of the space has a Jekyll and Hyde personality that made everyone feel very unwelcome. The food was not as promised either. Every time I spoke to the retreat owner to sort the situation I was belittled and told I was not teaching my yogis the ‘correct’ yogic path of ahimsa and santosha. (Non harm and contentment).

Of course as humans we focus on the negative and I slipped into a downward spiral of imposter syndrome.
Thank goodness my friend was with me for support. And then I got myself on my mat and reconnected. I just simplified everything and just taught yoga in the most beautiful shala. I focused all my energy in enjoying what I love to do; hold space for yoga. And you know what happened? My yogis connected. I saw the most incredible group of women hold space for each other and for me. They were holding me up and I never even realised.

So much so when the owner told me how to teach my next class, I told her where to go. I told her this is my space, this is my class and my people.

Thank you my yogis. For teaching me 🙏
