a helping hand

a helping hand To help people in the community retain their independence in later life by offering a friendly and reliable service.

I started a helping hand in 2016 after spending 7 enjoyable years working for Age UK South Lakeland, and I now have a small team of people helping older residents in Sedbergh, Kirkby Lonsdale and surrounding areas. With the experience I gained at Age UK I can help with benefit checks, claiming Attendance Allowance and applying for a Blue Badge. I can point you in the right direction for aids and a

daptations for the home and offer advice on staying fit and active. The many other things we help with include - companionship/ respite, help with paperwork and IT, shopping, collecting prescriptions, taking clients to hospital/doctors appointments, home help / light gardening, meal planning and preparation. One thing our clients love are their weekly (or more frequent) days out to places like garden centres, cafes, the lake district, historical sites and gardens. All members of the team are DBS checked, have public carers liability insurance and have completed numerous courses relating to older adults including first aid and dementia awareness .
