Hi, I’m Alexandra. I teach people to overcome pain, trauma, and that inner voice that tells them they can’t do it, or they’re not good enough. I am that person who is going to help you to understand your thoughts and behaviours. I am that person who will show you how to reach those goals and feel incredible about yourself. It’s time to take back control of your life. What do I have to offer? When I was 16 years old, I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour. I was told by a doctor that I would never make it through high school. When I started at university, I began a vigorous course of radiotherapy. Five days a week, for five weeks, I was strapped to a table and had a radioactive beam attack the tumour that was so close to my brain. I’m not going to lie, I was terrified. As my studies went on, I grew weaker and tireder. To my deep sadness, I had no choice but to leave university. Fast forward a month or so, I witnessed myself slipping away. The bubbly, funny girl I once knew was fading. I was spending 18 hours a day sleeping. I was severely depressed, and faced panic attacks on a daily basis. Soon, the anxiety levels were so high my body was unable to hold food, and every muscle in my body ached from the tension I was holding. I became dangerously underweight and also developed chronic pain, which was enormously difficult to manage. Living with my dad at the time, the fear and sorrow in his eyes whenever he looked at me was heartbreaking. I felt so guilty, and that look extended to everyone that cared about me. My dad worked, so I spent my days alone. My friends no longer texted or visited me. Words cannot describe the loneliness and hopelessness that I was overcome with constantly. When I believed that things couldn’t get any worse, my right eye began to swell and close. It got to the point where I couldn’t open it at all. The doctors said this was inflammation from the radiation, and I wouldn’t be able to use my eye again. Doctors had no clear answers as to whether my condition would improve or continue to degrade. I was a case study. They didn’t even know if I would live or die. I was at the point where I would often wake up in the morning already crying and screaming with pure desolation. I had not so much as smiled in months, I had not felt even a glimpse of happiness or hope. I was riddled with suicidal thoughts and wishing I was already dead, wondering why this was happening to me… On the other hand, I was conflicted, because I knew that deep down, the passionate, intelligent, and empathetic young woman was still there. We were like estranged friends. For four years after these occurrences, I still suffered with chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and deep loneliness. I knew I wanted to get better. I knew that life had bigger plans for me than to spend my days in bed. The only thing I didn’t know, was how to make it happen. I tried getting psychological help, but soon found that mainstream therapy was not for me. It did not make me feel supported, and it did not help me heal or change my mindset. Everything changed for me one day, when I decided to attend a hypnotherapy class. It was beyond the fact that I found it endlessly interesting. I saw a new way to heal. I began to understand how my illness was necessary in order for me to realise my path. I have new perspective, I have new confidence, and I have a new ability to help others. I began my hypnotherapy diploma with the mentality of a victim. I completed that diploma as an empowered young woman, eager to fulfill her purpose. Life is fragile, life is beautiful. It is here and now, and it is ours. There is always hope, and even a small step in the right direction is a huge success. The truth is that only you can make you better – but do not make the mistake of believing that no one can help you see the way. Take the first step today with a simple phone call, let’s chat about what’s going on.

Over the past few posts, I've explored what self-abandonment can look like, why it develops, and the impact it can have over time.

If you'd like to reflect more deeply on this topic, these journal prompts may help you identify where you have been leaving yourself behind and what rebuilding your relationship with yourself might look like.

Take what resonates, leave what doesn't, and remember that awareness is often the first step towards change 🤍

• What things do you do out of guilt rather than authenticity?

• In what areas of your life have you been leaving your needs unspoken?

• Which people do you need to be especially mindful of your boundaries with?

• What are moments that come to mind when you ignored your intuition? What was the consequence?

• Which dreams, desires, or parts of yourself have you abandoned in order to meet the expectations of others?

• How has self-abandonment affected your relationships - including your relationship with yourself?

• How did self-abandonment help you survive, stay safe, or maintain connection earlier in life?

• What would it look like to begin showing up for yourself with more honesty, care, and self-trust?

Self-abandonment can become so familiar that many people don’t recognise the impact it’s having until they reach a point of exhaustion, numbness, resentment, or disconnection from themselves.

When you repeatedly override your own needs, emotions, intuition, and boundaries over long periods of time, it often creates an internal message that says:

"My needs matter less."
"My feelings are too much."
"Other people don't care about me."
"I have to earn connection by abandoning myself."

The long-term impact of self-abandonment can include:
• Losing trust, connection, and confidence in yourself over time
• Feeling chronically depleted, exhausted, or emotionally unseen because your needs are rarely prioritised
• Suppressing your thoughts and feelings so often that resentment begins to build
• Experiencing strained relationships because your unspoken needs, hurt, or resentment eventually surface indirectly
• Struggling with self-worth and questioning whether your needs, feelings, or voice truly matter
• Feeling constantly drained while rarely moving towards the life you actually want for yourself

Many people living in self-abandonment appear highly capable on the outside while feeling disconnected, depleted, or emotionally lost internally.

Healing often begins by noticing the moments you leave yourself behind, and slowly rebuilding safety, trust, and connection within yourself again.

Self-abandonment may once have been a survival strategy, but it was never meant to become your identity.

Self-abandonment rarely develops without reason.

For many people, it began as an adaptation - a way of maintaining connection, avoiding conflict, staying emotionally safe, or receiving approval in environments where being fully yourself didn’t feel safe or supported.

Why self-abandonment can become your normal:
• You learned early that other people’s needs, emotions, or expectations mattered more than your own
• Authentic self-expression was met with criticism, rejection, conflict, or withdrawal
• Relationships, environments, or workplaces taught you that keeping the peace meant leaving yourself behind
• You didn’t receive the emotional safety needed to fully trust that your needs, feelings, and boundaries mattered too

Not because there is something inherently wrong with you, but because these patterns were learned and reinforced over time.

Awareness is often the first step in changing them.

What was once a survival strategy can slowly become something you no longer need.

Healing self-abandonment isn’t about becoming selfish.
It’s about learning that you no longer have to disappear in order to maintain connection.

Self-abandonment is often subtle.

It doesn’t always look like self-hatred or obvious self-neglect. Sometimes it looks like consistently overriding yourself in order to maintain connection, avoid conflict, meet expectations, or feel safe.

It can look like:
• Constantly prioritising the needs, expectations, or comfort of others above your own
• Saying yes to things you don’t truly want to do out of guilt, fear, obligation, or pressure
• Ignoring your intuition or inner knowing, even when something feels misaligned
• Allowing your boundaries to be crossed or dismissed while convincing yourself it’s “not a big deal”
• Suppressing your needs, feelings, or thoughts in order to avoid conflict, rejection, or disapproval
• Overextending yourself emotionally while quietly feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsupported
• Living according to the expectations of others while losing connection with your own desires, goals, or direction

Over time, this can create a disconnection from your own needs, emotions, intuition, and identity.
