Kindness in Funeral Care: Why Small Acts Stay With Families

Families may forget some details of a funeral, but they rarely forget how they were treated.

In this short video, Simon Welham continues our Funeral A to Z series with the letter β€œK” for kindness.

Because funeral care is not only about cars, coffins, paperwork and timings. It is about patience, warmth and quiet support when families need it most.

Kindness in funeral care can mean many things:

* Answering the phone gently in the middle of the night
* Explaining something again without rushing
* Helping a family make a difficult choice
* Making room for one more person at the service
* Giving someone time to pause, cry or ask questions
* Supporting families with care and respect

At Welham Jones Funerals and Memorials, we believe professionalism is essential. But kindness is what families truly feel.

What small act of kindness has stayed with you during a difficult time?

Funeral Jewellery and Keepsakes in Tunbridge Wells : Jewellery After Someone Dies | Funeral Keepsake Ideas That Hold Precious Memories

Sometimes, the smallest items become the biggest reminders of someone we love.

A wedding ring. A watch. A simple locket. These personal belongings often carry deep emotional meaning after a loss.

And when families are faced with difficult choices after a funeral, knowing there is no β€œright” answer can bring comfort.

In our latest video, Simon Welham from Welham Jones Funerals and Memorials talks about jewellery and keepsakes after someone dies.

He explains:

β€’ Why keepsakes matter after bereavement
β€’ The choice between burial, cremation, or keeping jewellery
β€’ How families pass treasured items through generations
β€’ Why personal memories are often more valuable than the item itself

This gentle video is part of our A to Z funeral series, created to help families through difficult moments with care, understanding and practical guidance.

Have you ever kept a small item that reminds you of someone special?

Funeral Carriage: A Horse Drawn Funeral at Bluebell Cemetery

A funeral carriage waiting quietly at the cemetery can say more than the service itself.

Because it gives people time to pause.

In this video, we share a horse drawn funeral carriage at Bluebell Cemetery in Sevenoaks, with two pairs of horses standing ready alongside the carriage.

It’s a calm, reflective moment. One that many families find deeply meaningful.

For some, this is where everything slows down. Where the reality of the day gently settles, and people have space to remember.

If you are considering a funeral with horse and carriage, this shows what that moment can feel like at the cemetery itself.

Funeral horse and carriage prices start from Β£800.

Do you think the quiet moments before or after a service are the most important?

We had the privilege of caring for a local family this week who chose a woodland burial for their loved one.

The South Downs Natural Burial Site near Petersfield is truly stunning. The peaceful surroundings and natural beauty create such a gentle, comforting place to lay loved ones to rest. 🌿

Being part of such a meaningful farewell is always an honour. Woodland burials offer a simple, natural way to say goodbye β€” allowing families to reflect, remember, and feel close to nature in a setting that changes beautifully with the seasons. 🀍

Funeral Carriage: A Horse Drawn Funeral Procession in Sevenoaks

A funeral carriage can turn a final journey into something deeply meaningful.

Not through grand gestures. Through quiet dignity and care.

In this video, we share a horse drawn funeral carriage procession travelling from Sevenoaks to Bluebell Cemetery. Led by two pairs of black horses, with our team walking alongside, the journey reflects a calm and respectful farewell.

Horse-drawn hearses, with two pairs of black horses, bring a timeless dignity to a funeral. The slow, measured pace, the polished carriage, and the quiet presence of the horses create a powerful sense of occasion, a fitting tribute for someone whose final journey deserves something memorable and graceful.

For many families, this slower journey becomes the moment they remember most.

If you are considering a funeral horse and carriage, this gives a gentle insight into what that can look like.

What part of a funeral do you feel matters most, the service itself or the final journey?
