🎓 Got your A-level results? Don’t forget your MenB vaccination!

If you’re heading to university for the first time this autumn, add getting protected against meningitis B to your preparation list.

You may be eligible for a free NHS MenB vaccination at Kiveton Pharmacy if you:

✅ Were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008; or
✅ Were born on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting university—or certain residential further education courses—for the first time this autumn.

Two doses are needed, at least four weeks apart, so arrange your first dose as soon as possible. If your eligibility is based on starting university or college, remember to take evidence of your offer.

☀️ Hot weather and medication

With temperatures rising, it’s important to remember that some medicines can affect the way your body regulates temperature. This can increase the risk of dehydration, overheating or other problems during hot weather.

If you take medication for a mental health condition:

💧 Stay well hydrated
🏠 Keep cool and avoid excessive heat where possible
💊 Continue taking your medication as prescribed

Medicines that may increase the risk include:

• Antipsychotics
• Lithium
• Some antidepressants
• Certain antihistamines
• Anticholinergic medicines

Taking lithium? It is particularly important to stay well hydrated during hot weather, as dehydration can affect lithium levels and increase the risk of side effects.

If you’re concerned about how your medication may affect you in hot weather, speak to your pharmacist, GP or other healthcare professional for advice.

Do not stop taking prescribed medication without speaking to a healthcare professional first.
