Helped today at the Trans Liberation protest against the EHRC guidance.

If you attended I hope you felt validated, heard, and loved by community and allies. But these things are still a lot, and there were a few upsetting incidents, so please be kind to yourself the rest of the day!

Do something relaxing, and calm if you need to wind down, or something physical like going for a walk, a workout, or having a dance if you are feeling the adrenaline/energy still in your body.

Be around nature or something else that reminds you of change and progress. Take in good times with safe people if you can, or in a safe familiar space if not.

And take care as always.

Spring Equinox

So many expectations in our modern busy lives, to set goals and start new projects before we've barely taken a breath, to turn new pages in the midwinter, to make resolutions at new years.

But nature is only just waking up and its nearly the end of March!

If you have struggled with the cold weather, the lack of light, the slowness, you're not alone. Our natural rhythms don't expect anything of us yet.

Some of the earliest flowers have only just reared their heads. They know the importance of going to ground, awaiting better conditions, storing and collecting resources and support first.

Do not force yourself to bloom before you are ready. Rest and feed yourself, and blooming will follow.

BACP Making Connections

Very much enjoyed the Making Connections event this week put on by the BACP in Sheffield.

It was great to hear some very interesting talks; a few that especially align with my practice and approach to topics of nuerodiversity, identity, trauma, and attachment. Other talks were interesting in a different way, but led to some amazingly reflective professional conversations during the day.

I most enjoyed MAKING CONNECTIONS with other local therapists in private practice, and deepening some already created. What a great experience!

Last working day of 2025

Another very meaningful year of client work for me. I'm very honoured to be able to do what I love, as always. This year has been hard for many people, for many different reasons. Outside of client work I have been busy supporting and advocating, and I want to do more of that next year, maybe even remembering to post more about it going forward!

I return to client work Tuesday 6th January. You can still contact me via my website or email [email protected] but I will not be regularly checking my work emails before this date.

I will not have spaces for new regular clients straight away in 2026, but this will likely change towards the end of January/early February. For that reason I welcome new enquiries, but for non-immediate start dates.

I will be trying to take some time to see friends and family, but also have some me-time over the Christmas period, to come back recharged and balanced in the new year. I wish everyone the thing they are needing the most this winter break. As always take care until then.

I didn't think I had been very engaged with the autumn equinox this year. But taking some time this morning to reflect, I realised that what had been keeping me busy, and unable to focus, had been the equinox itself.

The seasons are changing, we are in the loss and shedding cycle of nature. But because of that we are also in the reflection and summation period of the year, where we consider what has been gained in the past warmer seasons, and what we want to make way for in the growing seasons before us.

I had been busy with the garden, removing the dead flowers to make way for new ones next spring, cutting down the stalks so the plants can conserve energy in the harder winter months to come, and collecting fruit from the summer blessed fruit trees (and all the baking that comes along with that!).

I had been busy with my family, and the shifts and changes of schedules that come with September. Scrambling to remember old routines that worked this time last year, but also adapting to the inevitable newness of this specific autumn as well. And I had been changing clothes over from Spring/Summer to Autumn/Winter, thinking of cosier meals and seasonal activities, in preparation for the cold and darker times to come.

I had been so busy in fact that I found myself completely disregulated and discombobulated. Simply because I had focused on the chores of transition, and forgotten the reflection, rest, and recuperation that is especially important during these more difficult months. So going forward I am remembering to add a bit of hygge wherever possible, to balance out the darker times. My clients will know that balance is one of my commonest used reflections, and I must address this with myself as often as anyone does.

A little nature story of hope and resilience for the Equinox.

Going into my garden today I was reminded I have a new plant to check on, for a few weeks ago I had a surprising little visitor.

2years back my partner and I dug up some of our lawn to create a flower border. We bought and planted a lot of young plants, that would spread and grow over the years. It looked very bare at first, but we were hopeful, this was only the beginning.

Amongst these was a peony bulb, which I planted pre-spring, hoping for some summer shoots. Although I knew it wouldn't be big or pretty for a while, I was optimistic. My mum had peonies in my childhood garden, and they seemed hardy.

However the first summer came and went with no signs of growth, despite the other plants growing nicely. Again I knew it wasn't going to flower, perhaps this meant it wasn't going to shoot this year either, so I adjusted my expectations and waited.

One year later, the second summer came, and there it was! A shoot! It grew very quickly, but as it did it spread, rapidly, and it didn't look how I remembered. I sadly realised this was not the peony I had planted, it was a w**d. I pulled out the w**d and finally gave up, I'd just save up for the next spring and buy an established plant, I obviously couldn't care for this bulb.

But then as I say a few weeks ago, there she was. Growing tall and strong and deep red.

I found the following information on Peonies: "Peonies establish a vigorous root system the first two years after planting. Once planted it'll take about three years for an abundant show of flowers, but a peony can easily live as long as 100 years."

You see Peonies ARE hardy, but only because they take the time to grow their roots, anchor in, and build themselves a strong foundation. They will emerge only when they've attended to and trust in their own stability. New beginnings are often like this, we can't always see or feel that they are going well, and hope can be hard. But new beginnings aren't about looking good, they're about being stronger, ready for the path ahead.
