Ever wondered how many calories your body uses just to keep you alive? πŸ’™

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs each day to carry out basic functions such as breathing, circulating blood, regulating temperature and supporting your organs πŸ«€πŸ«

Knowing your BMR can help you better understand your energy needs and can be useful if you're looking to manage your weight, improve your fitness or make healthier lifestyle choices πŸ‘

Your BMR is influenced by factors such as:
β€’ age
β€’ s*x
β€’ height and weight
β€’ muscle mass
β€’ overall health πŸƒ

While BMR is only one part of the picture, understanding it can help you make more informed decisions about your nutrition and activity levels πŸ’ͺπŸ₯—

Use the Patient Info BMR Calculator to find out more about your body's energy needs πŸ’«

July 2026 Friends & Family Test Results

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their feedback with us during July. Your comments help us understand what we're doing well and where we can improve.

87% of respondents rated their experience as Good or Very Good.

Patients highlighted:
β€’ Friendly, caring and professional staff
β€’ Feeling listened to and respected
β€’ Quick responses and same-day appointments when needed
β€’ Excellent nursing and clinician care
β€’ Efficient appointments with minimal waiting times
β€’ A clean, welcoming practice environment

We're delighted to receive such positive feedback about our team and would like to thank all our staff for their continued hard work and dedication.

πŸ’¬ You Said, We Listened

We also received valuable feedback about appointment booking and our AI telephone receptionist system.

AI Telephone Receptionist -
We understand that some patients have found the AI receptionist frustrating to use, particularly when trying to speak with a member of the practice team. We want to reassure patients that we are continually working with the developers to improve the service, and a new upgrade is currently in development which will help create a smoother and more user-friendly experience.

Appointment Availability -
We appreciate that it can be frustrating when appointments are not immediately available. Like all GP practices, we have a finite number of appointments available each day, and demand often exceeds capacity.

Where appropriate, patients may be directed to alternative services, including:
β€’ Pharmacy First
β€’ NHS 111
β€’ Walk-in or Urgent Treatment Centres
β€’ Other suitable healthcare providers

Whilst these options may not always be a patient's first choice, they are often the most appropriate way to access timely care.

We would also encourage patients who receive a booking link to continue checking availability throughout the day. Appointments are released regularly, and cancellations can create additional appointment slots at short notice.

πŸ—£οΈ Patient Open Meeting

We are always grateful for feedback and welcome the opportunity to discuss patients' experiences and suggestions.

To continue these conversations, we have arranged a second Patient Open Meeting:

πŸ“… Wednesday 12th August
πŸ•™ 10:00am to 11:00am
πŸ“ Woodseats Medical Centre

This is an opportunity to discuss topics such as appointment access, the AI receptionist system, and any other ideas you may have to help improve our services.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us shape the services we provide to our community.

Received an NHS Letter? Please Don’t Ignore It

NHS England is currently carrying out a national patient list update to ensure patient details are accurate and up to date.

If you receive a letter asking you to confirm your information, please take a few moments to respond as soon as possible.

⚠️ Not responding could lead to you being removed from your GP practice list, even if you still live locally and use our services.

Keeping patient records accurate helps ensure people remain registered with the correct GP practice and supports funding for local healthcare services.

If an NHS letter arrives, please check it carefully and respond promptly. Thank you for your support.

πŸ“’ Patient Participation Group (PPG) Open Meeting

We are inviting all patients to attend our next Patient Participation Group (PPG) Open Meeting, which will take place on:

πŸ“… Wednesday 12th August 2026
πŸ•™ 10:00am to 11:00am
πŸ“ Woodseats Medical Centre, Ground Floor Meeting Room (near the lifts)

Following our previous meeting, we will be revisiting a number of important topics affecting General Practice. The NHS and primary care services continue to face significant challenges and changes, and we know many of the questions and concerns raised by patients relate to these issues.

This meeting is an opportunity to:
βœ… Receive updates from the practice
βœ… Share your views and experiences
βœ… Ask questions about changes affecting General Practice
βœ… Help us improve communication and patient understanding

All patients are welcome to attend, whether you have attended a PPG meeting before or not.

We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your views. Thank you for your continued support.

August is National Immunisation Awareness Month, a great opportunity to learn more about the vaccines that help protect children from serious illnesses πŸ’‰πŸ’™

Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to protect against infectious diseases and help keep our communities healthy πŸ‘

The MMRV vaccine protects children against four illnesses:
β€’ Measles
β€’ Mumps
β€’ Rubella
β€’ Varicella (chickenpox) πŸ‘Ά

These illnesses can sometimes lead to serious complications, including pneumonia, meningitis and other health problems ⚠️

The MMRV vaccine is offered as part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme and helps provide important protection during early childhood πŸ’™

Making sure your child receives their vaccinations on time helps protect them and those around them πŸ›‘οΈ

If you're unsure whether your child is up to date with their vaccinations, speak to your GP practice for advice πŸ‘

Living with Crohn’s or Colitis can affect much more than just your gut πŸ’œ

These lifelong conditions can impact work, education, relationships, and mental wellbeing – even when symptoms aren’t visible πŸ’¬

Around 1 in 120 people in the UK are living with Crohn’s or Colitis, yet many people still don’t fully understand the reality of these conditions 🀝

By raising awareness, we can help reduce stigma and support those living with invisible illnesses
