When you get a sudden urgency to go to the toilet, it makes sense to sprint to the loo to make sure we don'tleak.

But,the more we panic and rush…

the more we teach the bladder:
“this is an emergency.”

And before you know it, you’re doing the key-in-the-door dash.
Crossing your legs at the front door.
Planning every outing around where the nearest toilet is.

What most women don’t realise is that urgency can often be trained and calmed and even stop.

So next time that sudden “I need to go NOW” feeling hits…

Stop.

Take a breath.

Then do a gentle pelvic floor hold to help settle the bladder and calm the urgency signal.

Not because you’re “holding on for dear life”.
But because you’re reminding your bladder that you are in control.

You do not have to live life constantly on alert for the nearest toilet.

And leaking or urgency “just because you’ve had children” or “because you’re getting older” is not something you simply have to put up with.

Your bladder can be supported.
Your pelvic floor can be strengthened.
And your confidence can come back.

LEAKING IS NOT NORMAL

LEAKING IS NOT NORMAL

and for those in the back

LEAKING 👏🏻 IS 👏🏻 NOT 👏🏻 NORMAL 👏🏻

I don't care if you've been told by a healthcare professional, a doctor or by a Google search, it simply isn't true!

40% of women will leak at some point in their lives. That means that leaking is COMMON not normal.

The Pelvic floor is a muscle, and just like any muscle in the body it can change, adapt and get stronger at ANY stage of life.

You are not broken! You simply haven't found the right help yet.

When was the last time you were told to put up with leaking?

This is pretty much a brain dump of what I speak to my clients about. Most suitable for women at any age experiencing that must go now urgency. Share with the woman who plans her entire day around toilet visits (the "just in case" club).

One other thing to add: stop hovering over public loos. This forces the pelvic floor to stay tensed, so the bladder gets the signal it has to stop, meaning it won't empty fully and you'll feel like you need a wee again 10 minutes later.

Borderline overly detailed but hey, I wanted to make it as useful as possible.

Always speak to a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist or your GP if you are struggling with incontinence, this is info not advice.

Ever feel like the harder you try with your pelvic floor exercises, the less they seem to work?

If you're neurodivergent, there is a clinical reason for that.

For a long time, pelvic health has been treated as a simple muscle strength issue: the more you squeeze/do your kegels, the stronger the muscle is and the less leaks, right?
Wrong.

For the neurodivergent brain, the bladder-brain dialogue is a sophisticated one, which follows a different set of rules, which need to be addressed when providing support to stop leaking:

🧠 Interoception: Lowered interoceptive awareness means your brain physically "mutes" bladder signals, leading to those sudden, high-pressure emergencies.

👀 Hyperfocus: The ADHD brain in flow is so efficient at task-focus that it can temporarily override the body's physical cues.

💪 Hypermobility: The connective tissue requires a sophisticated approach to providing pelvic support that goes far beyond a simple muscle squeeze.

When we look at these factors together, we stop treating the symptom and start supporting the whole system.

When we move away from the "just squeeze more" narrative and toward a neuro-affirming approach, we can finally build a plan that is sustainable, successful, and works with your biology.

When we stop fighting against your biology and start working with it, we can build a path forward that actually feels sustainable.

Does this help explain some of the frustrations you’ve been feeling lately?

I’m Roisin, and I’m here to help you navigate pelvic health with a plan that respects both your brain and your biology. Stick around to learn more about your body and how you can stop leaking for good

I am forever amazed and humbled by the work I do to empower women and how it can transform people's lives.

Thank you so, so much to all the incredible women who have entrusted me with their care.

I don't think I fully appreciate the impact I have at times on my clients and what they get back after seeing me. Having the co fierce to have a 2nd baby is huge!

I think, this evening, I'm going to celebrate this woman with a glass of wine and possibly a little cry.

🚽✨ That sudden “I NEED A WEE RIGHT NOW” feeling the moment you see the toilet?

Yep, it’s a thing and it happens to so many women: You’re just walking through your home and happen to catch a glimpse of your toilet… and suddenly, it’s a mad dash to the loo.

This is often what we call urge incontinence or “key-in-the-door syndrome” and it’s all to do with how your bladder and brain have gotten a little too good at jumping the gun.

Over time, your brain has learned to associate the sight of your bathroom or the sound of running water with “it’s go time,” even if your bladder isn’t quite full yet. It's a bad habit. BUT, just like any habit, you can unlearn it too 💪

This is something I work on with women all the time — you’re not alone, and it’s absolutely possible to change the story. 💛

If you’re ready to feel more confident (and stop racing the loo!), I’d love to help.
