"What an incredible and inspiring experience. Supporting these phenomenal athletes, all with a story to tell has been such an honour, and the moment that the donors and their families were applauded into city hall for the opening ceremony was spine-tingling".

Our physiotherapist, Pete, along with Izzy and Vivek, volunteered their time last weekend to support the athletes at the British Transplant Games.

The Games continue to grow year on year, bringing together an incredible community and celebrating the strength, resilience and generosity of transplant recipients, donors and their families.

The Opening Ceremony was a fantastic celebration, with Pete McKee and the Everly Pregnant Brothers performing and helping to make the occasion truly memorable.

We’re incredibly proud of our team for being part of such a special event. 💙

"I know my posture's terrible... that's probably why my neck/back hurts."

This is one of the most common things we hear in clinic.

Sometimes posture does contribute to pain. But more often than not, it's not because someone is sitting "wrong"—it's because they've been in the same position for far too long.

Whether you work at a desk, on a factory floor, drive for a living or work from home, your body is designed to move.

That's why we wanted to write this blog. It looks at some of the common myths around posture, what the evidence actually tells us, and—more importantly—a few simple things you can do during your working day to help keep aches and pains at bay.

If there's one message we would like people to take away, it's this:

The best posture isn't a perfect posture—it's your next posture.

We would love to know what you think.

Evidence Week 🔎 | The Bigger Picture

Over the past week, we’ve looked at the evidence behind acupuncture, shockwave therapy, cupping and steroid injections.

Our aim has been to provide a balanced review — looking at what these treatments are claimed to do, what the research actually shows, and where they may fit in practice.

One thing that consistently stands out is this:

Adjuncts should remain adjuncts.

Treatments such as these can have a role in helping manage symptoms, but the key is understanding why the problem is happening and addressing the factors that are contributing to it.

At Hallamshire Physiotherapy Clinic, our approach is to look at the whole picture — understanding your goals, your lifestyle, your movement and the factors contributing to your symptoms — before deciding which treatments may be appropriate.

If an adjunct can help you progress, we’ll use it. If rehabilitation is the priority, that’s where we’ll focus.

The best outcomes rarely come from one treatment alone. They come from understanding the problem and creating the right plan for the person in front of you.

Evidence Week: Steroid Injections 💉

Steroid injections are one of the treatments people often ask about when pain is stopping them from doing the things they want to do.

But what does the research actually tell us?

Steroid injections can be helpful for some conditions, particularly when pain is limiting movement or stopping someone from progressing with rehabilitation.

The important thing is understanding what they can — and can’t — do.

They may provide short-term pain relief, but they don’t always address the underlying reason the problem developed. The best results usually come when an injection is used alongside a plan to rebuild strength, movement and confidence.

For the right person, at the right time, a steroid injection can be a useful part of recovery.

We’ve summarised the evidence in this week’s carousel 👆
