Contemplation is powerful.
Here’s why I believe in the power contemplating,
For both sides of life.
When we’re living something, we’re busy living it. We’re feeling it, responding to it, taking it all in, and also moving through it.
We don’t have the space to fully understand what something meant to us until afterwards.
When something is incredibly challenging, we can't fully acknowledge the enormity of it whilst we're still having to put one foot in front of the other . It would bring us to our knees.
But..... What we couldn’t acknowledge while we were surviving something doesn’t necessarily disappear when the difficult part is over. It can be the opposite.
It can show up later, in our emotions, our reactions, our relationships, our bodies, or in ways we don’t immediately connect to what happened.
Overwhelming experiences can leave things behind that need our attention.
And I think contemplation is a way of turning towards them. Not to dwell. Not to live it all again.
But to acknowledge: that happened. It was hard. This is what it did to me. And now I have enough space to understand it.
Allowing ourselves to fully witness what happened, rather than simply surviving it,or allowing it to define us.
Integrating and completing what happened, so it becomes part of our story, without becoming the story we live from.
I've done this time and time again and the insights and gifts are a game changer.
And right now, whilst I'm contemplating my beautiful summer mornings. I'm receiving another round of bliss that's settling in my soul.
