Healing is not linear, and it is certainly never a competition. Your body knows the way, even if the path feels slow or unfamiliar.

Your body is quietly organising itself. It is always moving in the direction of peace and safety when it has the space to do so.

We sometimes think regulation is something we have to force. As if calm is an achievement that only arrives once we have done enough breathing exercises or stretched out every tight muscle.

Sometimes the desire, expectation or efforting towards regulation can get in the way, and become a subtle form of self abandonment in and of itself.

In Soma Massage™ we meet our clients where they are at, sometimes in states of dysregulation that have become a way of life and a problem they feel needs to be fixed.

In truth, the nervous system is built to find its way home, with the right conditions. It is wired for restoration.

What it needs most is permission rather than performance.

Want to know more about how the Soma Massage Method™ provides these right conditions?

As a body therapist, you may be tired of the old ways. Tired of pushing. Tired of overriding your own body. Tired of feeling like you have to fix your clients.

And your clients may be craving something different too.

Something slower. Something safer. Something that recognises what their nervous system is actually asking for.

The Soma Massage Method™ grew out of this recognition. It grew from years of noticing what truly helps a body settle. What allows a person to feel safe enough to soften. What brings both therapist and client back into relationship with themselves.

This training speaks to those observations.

* A training that values presence as much as technique.

* A training that honours the therapist’s wellbeing just as much as the client’s.

* A training that teaches touch the way the body understands it. Slow. Attuned. Respectful. Deeply human.

If you are a qualified massage therapist and you’ve been looking for a trauma informed, nervous system based way of working, you can explore my work further here. Dates of my new training cohorts are included.

If you have a sense have reached the limits of traditional bodywork.

If you know healing goes deeper than muscles and your clients need more than techniques

If you are craving slower, safer, more attuned work,

If you love your clients but feel drained, and you need a way of working that supports you as much as them.

and if you feel ready to grow personally as well as professionally, then The Soma Massage Method™ training gives you the theory, the tools, the embodied experience to work with the nervous system, to create real safety, and to offer sessions that feel sustainable, grounded and deeply effective.

If this speaks to you, we'd love to have you join us.

Training dates for the next three cohorts of the Soma Massage Method™, including the new option to pay in instalments will be available from Tuesday 16 June. 🙏😊

Self regulation is not about staying calm all the time. It is about understanding our nervous system, recognising triggers be they internal and/or external, and choosing steps that bring us back to a steady baseline.

In my video Beyond Regulation, I explore self regulation, co regulation, up regulation and down regulation, and how these differ from self soothing.

One of the key principles of the Soma Massage Method™ is regulation and on the course we explore the important difference between self regulation and self soothing.

Self regulation is a skill we can learn for ourselves and support our clients to build, through our co regulation, which offers a bridge through real felt experience.

Offering our clients a calm, client led space to practise regulation with mindful touch, clear consent and simple tools they can take home, they can return to a steady state more often and stay there more easily and continuously.

None of this is achieved through force. It grows from consistent, kind attention. That is the heart of regulation, and why this over self soothing is taught on the course.

It is the felt sense of our presence and the Soma Massage™ itself that will support our clients to feel and learn what self regulation is.

Safety is not a thought. It is a felt sense.

It shows up in small ways. Shoulders softening without you asking. A longer out breath. A moment when the world feels just a little less sharp around the edges.

I see this every week in the treatment room. Someone lies down with a body that has been bracing for far too long.

We start slowly. No pushing. No agenda.
Gradually their system recognises that nothing here is demanding or dangerous. You can almost feel the quiet sigh ripple through their tissues. The body says, Ah. Here I am. I remember this.

This capacity to return is in us all. It never left. It may be buried under stress or responsibility or years of holding things together, but it is still ours.

In the Soma Massage Method, we learn about safety as one of the key principles, how establishing it within ourselves is pre-requisite and how to embody and communicate this to our clients in so many ways.

If you’re interested in learning more, consider signing up for our waiting list here for upcoming training sessions.
