Shropshire Menopause Hub Support, connection and clarity through midlife, menopause and beyond

04/08/2026

One of the biggest myths I see is that eating less automatically means eating better.

Very often, the opposite is true.

Many women arrive convinced they need more discipline, when what they actually need is a plate that better supports their energy, appetite, muscle and long-term health.

That’s why I created The Menopause Plate.

Not to tell you what to cut out.

But to help you understand how to make your meals work harder for you.

No rigid rules.

No one-size-fits-all diet.

Just practical nutrition you can start using straight away.

Food do you love it, but get confused as to what to eat to help you?
Then listen to this.

There’s so much advice about what we should be eating in menopause, isn’t there? What to eat more of, what to avoid, what to cut out completely… it can feel like a full-time job just trying to work out who to believe.

And more information isn’t always the answer. What really matters is understanding whether that advice is relevant to you, how it could help and how to actually use it in everyday life.

I’m Sarah Summers, a registered nutritionist and one of the founders of Shropshire Menopause Hub. I’ve worked with women in menopause for almost a decade, and I’ve been through it myself.

In The Menopause Plate, I’ll share three simple principles that can help support things like energy, sleep, brain fog and hot flushes — and show you how to adapt them to the way you already eat.

You’ll leave with practical ideas you can use straight away, and we’ll finish with a live Q&A, so you can ask me anything.

Join me on Thursday 13th August at 7pm via Zoom. Comment the word EVENT for details or click the link in the comments to sign up.

As August is often busy with holidays, Shropshire Menopause Hub have decided to offer an online expert talk to our members and any guests who would like to join us.

There is so much advice out there about what/when we should eat during perimenopause and menopause that it is very difficult to know what to do for the best.

Not only is Sarah Summers one of the founders of the Hub, she is also an experienced and highly qualified registered Nutritional Therapist and Menopause Specialist.

Sarah has been asked “what is the perfect menopause diet” soooo many times and honestly replies “there isn’t a one size fits all”
However, she does recommend using some of her research based principles and will talk us through The menopause plate.

It will be a lively, fun and interactive hour, where we will learn lots of tips to help us make our plate work for us.

If you think this would benefit you, book your place using the following link, pop it on your calendar and we will see you live on zoom on Thursday 13th August 7-9pm. Members will receive their complimentary zoom details.

What is the perfect menopause diet?

This is something Sarah Summers, BANT registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Menopause Specialist, gets asked often.

And the answer - there isn’t one that would suit every menopausal woman.
However, Sarah will be using her expertise and foundational principles to discuss how to make your plate work for you.

We know August is often a busy month, so we have made this expert session an evening online one.

To join us on Thursday 13th August 7-8pm, follow the link for the live zoom details.

The Happiness Curve

I have read so many variations of “The Happiness Curve “ but in a nutshell, we feel happiest in our 20’s, dipping down around 40 ish and on the increase from there.

Various authors have called the lowest point “midlife slump” “midlife crisis” etc and ages quoted also differ. However, there seems to be this tricky time, coinciding with the average time for perimenopause when our happiness takes a bit of a hit. Importantly then, it climbs again.

In my case I absolutely think this applies and I feel I’m experiencing the “turn around” or “second climb”. The feeling of not caring about what people think and seeking out joy.

There are lots of books and articles about the happiness curve if you want to read more.

So, what is your experience? Can you relate to the happiness curve? Let me know your thoughts.
