It might seem like no big deal; but who you trust with your feet matters.
A podiatrist completes 3 years of intensive university training, followed by continuous postgraduate education and professional development. They are HCPC regulated and trained to recognise complications of diabetes, neuropathy, circulation problems, musculoskeletal conditions, Raynaud’s and much more.
By contrast, anyone can currently call themselves a “Foot Health Practitioner” without the same statutory regulation or level of training.
There’s also no guarantee they have undergone the same professional checks. In some circumstances, an unregulated practitioner could even have a criminal record or previously been a regulated professional who was struck off.
They may also charge the same or similar fees as a qualified podiatrist.
Your feet deserve better.
The conversation needs to start, and we need to look seriously at how patients are protected and informed.
Because feet matter. Health matters.🦶

We call on the UK Government to introduce legislation to regulate Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs), requiring that they do not practise independently and may only provide foot care services under the clinical supervision or governance of an HCPC-registered podiatrist.
