Finished a weekend of DIY and now your shoulder is paying the price?

Every summer I see an increase in shoulder pain caused by painting, gardening, lifting heavy materials and other DIY projects.

The good news? Many of these injuries can be prevented.

I've put together a new blog with practical advice on protecting your shoulders while tackling jobs around the house and garden this summer.

Take a look and keep your projects moving without the aches and pains.

Testimonials like this never get old.

When someone walks through my door after months of injury setbacks, my aim isn't just to get them out of pain—it's to help them understand why the injury happened and what we can do to reduce the chances of it returning.

Recovery works best when we look at the bigger picture, which is why treatment often includes rehabilitation, movement advice, nutrition, and lifestyle factors alongside hands-on care.

Thank you for trusting me with your recovery journey and for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback.

Feeling unsure about booking your first Osteopathy appointment?

For many people, it isn't the pain itself. It's the uncertainty.

What will happen?
Will it hurt?
What if I'm nervous?
Do I need to bring anything?

These are all completely normal questions, especially if you've never seen an Osteopath before.

The truth is, your first appointment is simply a conversation about you, your health, and what you've been experiencing. From there, we'll carry out an assessment and discuss the best way forward together.

There are no silly questions, no pressure, and no expectation that you should know exactly what's wrong.

If you've been thinking about booking but haven't quite taken that first step, just send me a DM. I'm always happy to chat and help you decide whether Osteopathy is right for you.

Nervous about your first osteopathy appointment?

You're not alone. One of the most common things new patients tell me is that they simply didn't know what to expect.

That's why I've written a new blog explaining exactly what happens during your first osteopathy session from the initial consultation and assessment to treatment, common questions, and myths about osteopathy.

Knowledge builds confidence, and understanding the process can make taking that first step much easier.

If you've been putting off booking because you're feeling unsure, this blog is for you.

How long should you wait before getting help for back pain after gardening?

A bit of stiffness after a day in the garden can be normal, but ongoing pain shouldn’t be ignored.

If your discomfort lasts more than 48 hours, feels worse when you move, or starts travelling down your leg, it’s a good idea to seek professional advice sooner rather than later.

Early support can help prevent a small strain from turning into a longer-term issue and get you back to doing the things you enjoy more comfortably.

Whether it’s digging, lifting, pruning or weeding, repetitive gardening movements can put a surprising amount of pressure on your back.

Want to understand why gardening can trigger back pain and what you can do to reduce the risk? DM me!

Spring gardening is great for your wellbeing… but not always for your back

Most people don’t realise how much strain gardening places on the body until the stiffness, aches, or sharp pain kicks in later that day.

Usually, it’s not one major movement that causes the problem.

It’s the repeated bending, twisting, lifting, kneeling, and poor posture that gradually overload the muscles and joints.

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.

Using better lifting techniques, taking stretch breaks, improving posture, and preparing your body properly before gardening can help reduce strain and keep you moving comfortably all season.

I explore the hidden causes of gardening-related back pain in my latest blog post, along with practical tips to help you garden safely and stay active this spring and summer.

Do you have a teen who is spending hours revising on their bed or in awkward positions?

Exam season often means long study sessions, and this can commonly lead to neck, back, and shoulder discomfort.

As an osteopath, I can help by assessing what’s contributing to their aches, easing any discomfort, and supporting them to feel more comfortable while they study. I also provide practical advice to help them reduce strain during revision, such as:

> Changing position regularly (every 30–45 minutes if possible)
> Avoiding long periods of studying on the bed where posture tends to slump
> Supporting the lower back when sitting with a cushion or rolled towel
> Keeping screens at eye level to reduce neck strain
> Keeping feet supported on the floor or a stable surface
> Taking short micro-breaks to stand, move, and reset posture

Small, realistic changes like these can make a big difference to how they feel during revision and help prevent aches from building up.

If this sounds familiar, feel free to get in touch to book an appointment.

Been sitting a little too long? It doesn’t take much to get your body moving again.

Small, regular bursts of movement throughout the day can help with stiffness, energy levels, and overall comfort. It’s less about doing loads, and more about doing something—little and often.

Have a swipe through for a few simple ideas to get you started, and pick one that feels manageable today.
