Starting my day off with some 'green medicine'.

We are really blessed to be celebrating another 80th birthday with my MIL and family, close to Thetford Forest.

Waking up surrounded by tall trees, blue skies, and this tiny Muntjac...

It's lovely hearing the gentle sounds of movement in the trees, distant chatter of people, a quiet hum of mornings starting...

Nature - my absolute fave πŸ’“ and of course a nervous system soother and antidote to the business side of life: emails, tech thinking, attending to etc.

Have you planned any time being outdoors today, walking, looking, listening...

WHAT YOU PRACTISE GETS STRONGER...

This is something I share with all my clients, and it's based in science called Neuroplasticity.

Simply put, neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to change, adapt, and grow new brain cell connections when you learn or experience new things.

The more you repeat the same action / experience the stronger the brain cell connections get (making the action easier to repeat/ habituate over time).

And Neuroplasticity applies to me too of course..

I used it to change my mind habits some 15 years ago.

And today I have using it in my running training.

5 weeks ago, I decided to take on the couch to 5K program.

I could barely run the 90 seconds in week 1!

No kidding..

This evening, and just over half way through the course, I ran 2 x 8 minute sections without stopping.

I can't quite believe my body can do this!

So, what you practice really does get stronger, with repetition and consistency.

Feeling a teensie bit proud of myself....

What would you like to get stronger at?

Mindfulness x Neuroscience is a fab combo that can help you with that...

LIFE STORY...the ex-over-thinker

--------

Meditation is like 'martini'

Any time
Any place
Anywhere.

If you are 'ancient' like me, you might remember these words from the drink advert in the 80s.

And it's true.

Mindfulness and meditation can be practiced anywhere.

You chose the what, where and when.

That means it's 'mobile technology' and accessible.

This morning, I am making my morning cuppa outside part of my meditation

- using all my senses to enjoy it
- listening to the sounds in my garden
- taking a few deliberate slower, fuller breaths
- using this as a mental focus

And, when I get distracted and my mind taken away by a juicy thought, random story...then I choose to come back to those focal points.

I choose NOT to interact with the randomness of my mind or the seemingly juicy thought.

And when I choose that, my mind can settle down....

That's just one part of mindfulness and meditation... and it genuinely transformed my life and mental health some 15 years ago now.

Developing the skill not to engage with an over thinking mind is a trainable quality - it does take practice...

For me, it wasn't just life changing, it's what changed the whole trajectory of my career: from Scientist to Mindfulness Consultant...

So here I sit still maintaining that skill to keep my mind, body, mood in good shape..

Do you have an overthinking mind - what helps you navigate that?

Wishing you a good day ahead.

Have you ever been told you just need to be more resilient?

We don't believe that's the answer.

In fact, we think you're already incredibly resilient.

The problem isn't that you're not trying hard enough.

The problem is that many of us spend so much time in survival mode that our nervous system never really gets the chance to settle.

When that happens, it becomes harder to:
πŸ’š Think clearly.
πŸ’š Sleep well.
πŸ’š Make good decisions.
πŸ’š Stay patient.
πŸ’š Feel creative.
πŸ’š Enjoy the people and moments that matter most.

The answer isn't to push yourself even harder.

It's learning how to understand and work with your nervous system, rather than constantly battling against it.

And that's exactly why my amazing colleague Will Crawford and I have created this year's Lincoln Wellbeing Retreat...

🌿 Regulation for Restoration

This isn't about escaping real life.

It's about understanding your mind and body well enough to return to real life feeling calmer, clearer and equipped with practical tools that genuinely work.

Together we'll explore the fascinating neuroscience behind stress and regulating your nervous system, alongside mindfulness, meditation, gentle time in nature and evidence-based practices that can fit into even the busiest of lives.

You'll leave with practical approaches to help you:
✨ Sleep better.
✨ Feel calmer.
✨ Quiet an overthinking mind.
✨ Build resilience without burning out.
✨ Feel more like yourself again.

But here's the thing...

When people tell us about the retreat afterwards, they don't just talk about the neuroscience or the mindfulness, meditation

They talk about how the day made them feel.

The warmth.
The laughter.
The conversations over coffee.
The kindness in the room.
The permission to simply arrive exactly as you are.

Our retreats bring together caring, curious people who quickly realise they're not the only one trying to navigate a busy world with a full mind and an even fuller diary.

And that's when something quietly magical begins to happen.

We're also incredibly lucky to host the retreat at the beautiful Charlotte House Hotel in Lincoln. With its calming spaces, peaceful gardens and wonderful hospitality, it's the perfect place to slow down, breathe and restore.

(And yes... the food deserves a mention too! Thoughtfully prepared, absolutely delicious, and every dietary requirement lovingly catered for. 🍽️)

So, if your nervous system has been whispering or perhaps shouting... that it needs a little more care, maybe this is your invitation to listen.

You did...

then look no further

For so many women, the menopause transition can bring unexpected weight gain, and I know how easy it is to think that exercise should only be about losing weight.

But here's what I want you to remember... fitness isn't about shrinking your body – it's about building a stronger, healthier future. πŸ’ͺ✨

Our ❀️ hearts, 🦴 bones and 🧠 brains all need regular movement and strength training to help protect us from fragility and support long-term health after menopause.

I also know that stepping into an exercise environment can feel daunting. Maybe you haven't exercised for years. Maybe you're worried you won't fit in, or that aching joints, muscle pain or menopause symptoms will get worse.

You are not alone, and you don't have to be "fit" to get started. 🌸

I believe movement should be something we enjoy, not something we dread. When we shift our mindset and see exercise as an act of self-care rather than a punishment, that's when we begin to discover the joy of moving our bodies again. πŸ©΅πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

What's more, what is good for the 'Goose' is good for the 'Gander' 😍

✨ It's never too late to start moving. Every step, every stretch and every lift is an investment in a longer, stronger and healthier life.

Let's move for our health, our confidence and our future. Are you ready to start? 🌸🩡

Oh wow

I received this inspirational message (via WhatsApp) from a treasured friend.

It's not my place to tell their story.

But, I guess they are on the knife edge of uncertainty.

Maybe you have been there, or are there too.

I know I have.

This exact day last year I was told I was on the 2 week cancer pathway as clinicians were assessing me for endometrial cancer: bloods, scans, invasive and excruciatingly painful biopsies.

I remember having to live the day looking after my kids, making the start of their summer holidays light, happy, connected..

I cried in the quiet of night, when they went to bed - held my heart and the myriad of worries and what ifs

I settled my mind, soothed my body through breathing and movement. ..helping me come towards my truest capacity.

The knife edge comes in many forms, unique to each of our lives.

Myself, my friend and my clients have developed extensive, practical toolkits through mindful self compassion that enable us to live on that knife edge.

To hold difficult feelings, to understand ourselves, to know what to do when the edge is sharp and the stakes of uncertainty are high.

Thank god for 'modern mindfulness', this way of being and how it supports us in the hard times in our real lives.

I've always got time to chat if this is something you'd like to explore for yourself...

The 'algo' is gonna hate me...

It is summer

I run a business and love my family.

I am the childcare, and we have no family support close to us.

So we had to creative..

When my husband and I created the vision for my business (over a decade ago) we considered what we wanted it to look like.

One of our pieces is that I would operate PT/ flexi/ term time..

So that I could be physically and emotionally present for our children.

It's not good luck that has brought us to this point.

We've spent years creating the conditions that enabled a synergy in our different professional and parenting roles.

We've sacrificed and been clear on our values.

So, the algorithms will hate my sporadic posting for the next 6 weeks or so but I am kinda busy "working' at loving, connecting, parenting these summer weeks.

What a promotion indeed!

And quietly, in the evenings, post bedtime is where the admin, comms etc exist.

Its a real juggle for many of us working parents..this works for us, but everyone's situation is different.

I hope to keep you posted of our exciting mindfulness and wellbeing opportunities ✨️
