I want to share my thoughts on grief.
Grief isn't a constant state of sadness. Tears ebb and flow between sorrow and joy. It's a concoction of feelings and sensations that cannot be controlled. Sadness, anger, happiness, resentment, joy, guilt, hurt. Feeling heavy hearted but having a weight lifted at the same time. Confusion.
We will all lose someone who means something different to each of us. Whilst there will be love and happiness, there will also be hatred and relief. You can feel sad to lose the opportunity to spend another day with a loved one, as much as you can feel sad to lose the opportunity to face an abuser. Every emotion is valid.
Grief can blindside us. One minute we are strong, fearless and can take on those life challenges, but that door handle getting caught on your top, or dropping your keys one too many times in a row can wipe out that defiance in an instant.
Grief can uplift us with fond, happy memories and it can knock us off our feet with a smell or song. It can do the same when asked, "are you ok?" And that IS ok.
For me, grief is a sign of the connection I had with those I have lost. It helps me remember that they were here, that I loved them and that they will always remain a part of me in my memories.
The image here demonstrates how grief and the memory of that person do not diminish over time, but instead our life grows around it. Personally, I find something beautiful in that
