🌑✨ What can a solar eclipse teach us about the brain? 🧠
There’s something extraordinary about watching the world around us change during an eclipse. The light fades, the temperature can drop, animals may behave differently — and for a few moments, our attention is completely captured by what’s happening in the sky.
From a neuroscience perspective, this is a lovely reminder of just how powerful attention and perception can be.
Our brains are constantly filtering an enormous amount of information, deciding what deserves our attention and what can safely fade into the background. When something unusual and emotionally significant happens, our attention system switches focus — we become more alert, curious and present.
And this matters in everyday life too.
We can't always control what happens around us, but we can learn to influence where we place our attention and how we respond to what we're experiencing.
✨ Change your focus, and you can change your experience.
This is one of the reasons I love neuroscience-informed hypnotherapy. By understanding how the brain and nervous system work, we can learn practical ways to interrupt unhelpful patterns, regulate our responses and create new, more helpful ones.
Just as an eclipse temporarily changes the way we experience the world around us, sometimes a small shift in perspective can change the way we experience our world. 🌿
