After the opponents were forced to forfeit the toss, Heckington decided to bowl first and were immediately put under pressure by a strong Rustons batting display. Opener Martin Noble laid the platform with a well-made 60, before wicketkeeper Mohammad Tariq dominated the innings with a superb 124, striking 22 fours and a six.

Heckington continued to battle throughout the innings, with Luke Frith (available for sponsorship) leading the attack brilliantly. Frith claimed 4 wickets for 50 runs from his 7 overs, removing the dangerous Tariq as well as Riaz and Zeeshan. Damon Tunnicliffe (Carole Heslam) chipped in with 2-36 from 8 economical overs, while Charlie Baxter (D.C. Baxter (Motors) Ltd) also picked up two wickets, including the key scalp of Noble. A run out from Damon Tunnicliffe and another from Chris Morley (MKM) helped restrict Rustons to 278/8, although Tariq’s century ensured they finished with a commanding total.

Chasing 279, Heckington started positively but found wickets difficult to stem against an excellent Rustons bowling attack. Xanti Xipu (The Mews Clinic) top-scored with 46, while Chris Morley added 32, Mike Priestley (available for sponsorship) contributed 32, and Charlie Baxter made a useful 21. Unfortunately, regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing, with the side eventually bowled out for 191 in the 38th over.

Rustons captain Paul Chambers proved the difference with the ball, producing an outstanding spell of 5-45 from 8 overs. He was well supported by Attiq Ullah (2-23) and Muhammad Riaz (2-24).

Despite the result, Heckington showed plenty of determination in both innings, with Frith’s four-wicket haul and several useful contributions with the bat providing positives to take into the next fixture.

Sundays first team game was less sucessful.

Billingborough winning the toss elected to bat first.

Their innings was built around a century from M Carter, who anchored the batting with 101 from 123 balls having earlier been dropped on 30.

After an early wicket, J Light provided excellent support with 70 from 87 deliveries having earlier being dropped on 20.
With others chipping in Billingborough made 220 for 8.

The wickets for Heckington were shared around:

* D Tunnicliffe (Carole Heslam) was the standout bowler, dismissing Carter, B Light and Arnold.
* O Trimingham (Abbie Wells Hair) removed J Light, J Zealand and A Pullum and put the brakes on what was looking to be a mammoth total from the opposition.
* R Townsend accounted for D Garfoot and A Morris.

Chasing 221, X Xipu (The Mews Clinic) made an aggressive 31 from 25 balls at the top of the order. Tom Hanson (Available for sponsorship) top-scored with 34 from 47, and Ollie Trimingham (Abbie Wells Hair) added 18, but the regular fall of wickets prevented any sustained momentum. And in spite of good performances from these two young players it was ultimately not enough and Heckington finished on 121 all out.

Heckington 1st XI welcomed Woodhall Spa 2s to the hallowed turf of Howell Road on Saturday. Under sunny skies, skipper Simpson (Smith Construction Heckington Ltd) decided to bowl first, hoping his depth of attack would serve him well.
He seemed to be vindicated when Xipu (The Mews Clinic) took a stunner at slip off Robbie Townsend (R & J Spencer Plasterers) to remove Seargeant. Woodhall slipped to 24-3 with all wickets falling to Townsend before Caswell and Hughes rebuilt in the middle overs. More wickets tumbled with Roy Tilley and Chris Morely (MKM) in the thick of it with three wickets apiece. But a last wicket partnership of 36 from youngsters Steadman and Bourke saw Woodhall reach a competitive 133 all out.
In reply Holtam (Field & Coast) and Xipu started well, mixing solid defence with controlled attack and seeing Hecko to 40 without loss. However, once Woodhall got into the middle order, Heckington's recent batting woes continued. On an increasingly tricky deck, Steadman and Bailey both impressed and only Gibson and Townsend passed double figures besides the opening pair. All out 88 and another tough examination to come next Saturday against Freiston!
