Paula Clements Celebrant Hello and welcome. Let me help you create a personalised ceremony of farewell to honour the life of your loved one. I am an independent celebrant. A theme?

I work throughout the Southeast of England including Surrey, Hampshire, West Sussex, and Berkshire. I am very happy to travel further afield. I trained with the International College of Professional Celebrants. The joy of being a celebrant is the freedom to write a unique ceremony for each couple or family. Whether you are a couple or a family I will work closely with you to understand your ideas, wishes and aspirations for your ceremony. For weddings and other family celebrations the palette of choice to help you create your ceremony is vast. What can we include that tells your unique story? A ritual? A special reading? An unusual way of delivering the rings? Your celebration will have its own unique hallmark to create treasured memories. Whatever sort of ceremony you are holding I will work collaboratively with you throughout to help you achieve the ceremony that gives you what you want, structured, and delivered in the way you want.

CAN FUNERALS BE NON-RELIGIOUS?
As a funeral celebrant I often get asked “Can funerals be non-religious?”. The simple answer is “yes”.
As our society has become much more multi-cultural religion doesn’t play a part in the day to day lives of many people. Funerals services have adapted so that the focus is upon meeting the wishes and beliefs of the deceased and the bereaved family. The entire content of a funeral service – music, readings, and the farewell can be non-religious to honour the person who has departed in a meaningful way.
There is a middle ground between a religious and purely secular funeral service. This is where a few religious elements are included, perhaps a The Lord’s Prayer and /or a short hymn. As a civil funeral celebrant, I can help the bereaved tailor a semi-religious or secular funeral service that is most appropriate for their needs, because farewells really do matter.

Autumn Funerals (Part 2)
You can use the seasonal theme in a funeral service or ceremony of farewell by incorporating music and/or poetry choices about autumn. Here are a few examples:
Music:
Forever Autumn – Justin Hayward
Autumn Leaves – Eric Clapton, Eva Cassidy, Nat King Cole
The Fall of the Leaf – Imogen Holst
Autumn Leaves – Ed Sheeran
Poetry:
Leaves by Elsie N Brady
To Autumn by John Keats
Autumn Fires by Robert Louis Stevenson
Autumn by Shaykh Zulqarnain

Autumn Funerals (Part 1)
Autumn is often associated with a time of remembrance. It’s a period of natural beauty with the symbolism of life ending as the leaves fall from the tress.
If you need to hold a funeral or other end of life ceremony in the coming weeks you have the chance to incorporate some seasonal elements into the service to make it a beautiful autumn farewell.

You can use seasonal decor -flowers in autumn colours, arrangements using autumn produce, or perhaps a wreath of different coloured leaves.

Using large dried leaves offers guests the chance to write personal messages of farewell. These could be placed on the coffin for the final journey, put with the flowers after the service, or you could gather to scatter them at a memorial service or celebration of life.

On Saturday morning I was at Greenacres Heatherley Park in Grayshott. I had the honour of leading the Autumn Memorial Service for HC Patrick Funeral Directors, Farnham. Despite the rather brisk wind, bright Autumn sunshine provided the backdrop as families and individuals gathered to remember the special people whom they had lost. Thank you to Poppy from HC Patrick and Ness at Heatherley Park for helping to make the service special and providing the opportunity for people who have suffered a loss to come together.
Afterwards it was lovely to hear people chatting and sharing memories of their loved ones. Visiting the ducks John and Gertrude (recent additions to the team at Heatherley Park) was as much of a draw as the cake and coffee!

Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week from 9th -15th October.

The week culminates at 7pm local time on Thursday 15th October. Candles will be lit around the world and left to burn for at least an hour to create a Wave of Light to honour the babies who have gone too soon.

Although you can create your own Wave of Light at home, The Oaks, Havant Crematorium, Bartons Road, Havant, is holding a Wave of Light Service on Thursday 15 October at 06:40 pm. Apply for tickets via https://stayhappening.com

“A moment in our arms ….. a lifetime in our hearts”

To all those families who have lost a cherished infant our thoughts are with you.

Another effective way to personalise a funeral service or farewell ceremony is selecting a suitable poem, perhaps about a favourite hobby or pastime. It doesn’t have to be long to be effective. This short piece could be ideal for a keen fisherman.
A Fisherman’s Prayer
God, grant that I may live to fish for another shining day,
But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray,
When nestled in your landing net as I lay peacefully asleep,
You’ll smile at me and judge that I am good enough to keep.

There are different ways to personalise a funeral service or farewell ceremony

Using colour can be a simple but effective way to honour your lost loved one with a more personal touch.
Here are some ideas:
• Funeral flowers using favourite colours
• Asking attendees to wear something in the chosen colour
• Incorporating the colour in the order of service as a background colour or as a coloured border
• If permitted, decorating the service venue with items in the chosen colour.
I have just added a new pink scarf to my collection to wear at services.
