STRONGER FOR LIFE, NOT JUST FOR THE GYM💪🏼

Our Over 60s Strength & Fitness class runs every Tuesday & Thursday, 12–1pm at Achieve Functional Fitness, and it’s one of my favourite classes to coach.

The majority of our members are 70+, and we even have some brilliant people in their 80s coming along each week. You absolutely don’t need to have any previous gym experience. Whether you’re completely new to strength training or you’ve been exercising for years, everyone is welcome.

Strength training becomes SO important as we get older. It helps us maintain muscle and bone strength, improve balance and mobility, make everyday activities easier, and most importantly, maintain our independence.

🎥 Take the calf raises in this video as a great example.

They’re not just working the calf muscles, because they’re holding weights, they’re also training grip strength which is much more important than simply being able to open a stubborn jar! Research has consistently found an association between grip strength and important health outcomes including mobility, functional ability and longevity. Large studies and meta-analyses have found that lower grip strength is associated with a higher risk of mortality.

The calf muscles are equally important. Strong calves contribute to walking, pushing off the ground, climbing stairs, balance and general lower-body function. Lower-limb weakness is also associated with a greater risk of falls, which is why maintaining strength in the legs is such an important part of healthy ageing.

This is what we mean by functional strength, training your body to stay strong and capable for the things you actually want to keep doing in everyday life.

🏋️‍♀️ No ego.
🏋️‍♂️ No previous experience needed.
🏋️‍♀️ Just sensible, progressive strength training in a friendly group.

STRONGER FOR LONGER💪

We often think about strength training as something we do to build muscle, change our body shape or get stronger in the gym.
But one of the biggest reasons I believe everyone should strength train as they get older is to protect the muscle they already have.

Our muscle mass naturally declines as we age. Muscle mass and strength generally peak in young adulthood and gradually decrease over the years, with the rate of decline increasing as we get older. This is influenced by a combination of factors including changes in hormones, muscle protein synthesis, nervous system function and, often, simply becoming less active.

And losing muscle isn't just about how you look.

Muscle is what keeps you independent.

It's what helps you:
🏋️‍♀️ Pick up and carry your shopping🪑 Get up from a chair without struggling🪜 Climb the stairs🧳 Lift your suitcase🚶‍♀️ Walk confidently and maintain your mobility⚖️ Maintain balance and reduce your risk of falls🏡 Continue doing the things you enjoy without relying on someone else

The good news? Ageing doesn't mean you have to accept becoming weaker.

Regular resistance training can help slow age-related losses in muscle mass and strength and even help you build muscle, to help maintain physical function and independence well into later life.

And you don't need to be lifting huge weights or training like an athlete.

You just need the right exercises, the right level of challenge and consistency.

This is a huge part of what I work on with my personal training clients, building strength that isn't just useful in the gym, but useful for life.

If you'd like to start strength training but aren't sure where to begin, drop me a message and let's have a chat about how I can help. 💪

Strong now. Stronger for longer.

🧘‍♀️ YOGA WITH ANNA 🧘‍♀️

Looking for a yoga class that actually fits what your body needs? I’ve got two very different classes running each week, so you can choose your vibe 👇

✨ MONDAY — Dynamic Vinyasa, 6–7pm

A stronger, more dynamic class designed to build strength, mobility and body awareness. Throughout August, we’re focusing on shoulder strength and stability, gradually building towards Crow Pose (Bakasana). We’ll break down the skills needed, work on the strength and confidence to support your bodyweight, and have a bit of fun along the way! Perfect if you enjoy moving, strengthening and challenging yourself.

🌙 THURSDAY — Restorative Yoga, 6–7pm

Thursday is all about slowing down. This is a super-chilled restorative class, with the entire session spent on the floor. We’ll focus on releasing tension through the upper back, shoulders and neck, as well as working on the masseter (jaw muscle). If you clench your jaw, grind your teeth, experience tension around your jaw/neck, or have dealt with TMD, this class could be particularly beneficial. Think gentle movement, deep relaxation and plenty of time to let your body unwind. 🤍

📍 Catherine de Barnes Village Hall
🕕 Monday & Thursday, 6–7pm
💷 £9 per class

Spaces are available to book through my website: 🌐 www.yogawithannauk.com

💜Fuelled & Fabulous💜

This photo was taken at our very first Fuelled & Fabulous workshop... and we're excited to bring it to many more women.

As women, our bodies are constantly changing, yet so much of the advice around training and nutrition is still based on research carried out on men. From hormonal fluctuations throughout the month to the changes that come with perimenopause and menopause, our bodies have unique needs that deserve to be understood.

That's exactly why Alex and I created Fuelled & Fabulous. This workshop is all about educating and empowering women to better understand what's happening in their bodies and how they can adapt their training and nutrition to support their health, strength and wellbeing through every stage of life.

Our aim isn't just to help women live longer, it's to help them stay strong, capable and independent, so they can continue doing the things they love with confidence for years to come.

We're now looking to take Fuelled & Fabulous on the road.

If you run a gym, yoga or Pilates studio, women's sports club, workplace, or community group with a predominantly female audience, we'd love to come and deliver this workshop for your members or team.

If you think this is something your community would benefit from, send us a message. We'd love to help start the conversation and give more women the knowledge they deserve.💜

Ready to level up your gymnastics skills this month?

August is here, and so is our new cycle of: Rings, Rope, and Random!

Here is what we’re tackling every Tuesday this month:
* Ring Foundations: We’re building strength from the ground up—working on front supports, dips, ring pull-ups, and the false grip, all aiming towards piecing together that iconic ring muscle-up.
* Rope Climbs: Technique and strength work to get you climbing with confidence.
* Random Skill Finishers: Ending every session with a fun, new gymnastics skill to try!

🎥 Throwback in the video! This was me completing my very first ring muscle-up reps back in 2017. Trust me, everyone starts somewhere, and building those foundations step-by-step makes all the difference.

Whether you're looking to learn your very first skill or refine what you already have, everyone and all fitness levels are welcome!

📍 Where: Achieve Functional Fitness
⏰ When: Every Tuesday | 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
🎟️ Trial: Your first class can be done as a trial—come give it a go!

Interested? Pop me a message to reserve your spot or ask any questions. We’d love to see you there! 🙌

It's never too late to get stronger💪🏼

One of the biggest myths I hear is, "I'm too old to lift weights." The truth is, strength training is one of the best things you can do for your health as you get older.

Our Over-60s Strength & Fitness classes focus on building strength safely and progressively, helping you to:
✅ Maintain and build muscle mass✅ Improve bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis✅ Improve balance and stability to help prevent falls✅ Make everyday tasks like carrying shopping, climbing stairs and getting up from a chair feel easier✅ Stay independent, active and confident for longer

The video here shows one of our classes practising barbell deadlifts. While that might sound intimidating, every exercise is adapted to suit the individual. Whether you're completely new to strength training or have been exercising for years, we'll meet you where you're at.

Our members range from their 60s right through to their 80s, and everyone trains at their own pace in a friendly, supportive environment.

📍 Achieve Functional Fitness🕛 Tuesdays & Thursdays | 12:00–1:00pm

If you've been thinking about giving strength training a go, there's no better time to start. Your future self will thank you!

Two women. Two very passionate coaches. One workshop we believe every woman deserves access to.

If you're in your 40s, 50s or beyond and you've ever wondered...

"Why does my body suddenly feel different?""Why isn't the training that used to work working anymore?""What should I actually be eating?"
..our Fuelled & Fabulous workshop is designed for you!

Together, Alex (Physiotherapist at Achieve Health) and I (Personal Trainer specialising in women's health and strength training) will explain what really happens during perimenopause and menopause, and, more importantly, what you can do to support your body through it.

We'll cover:✨ What's happening hormonally during perimenopause and menopause✨ How to adapt your training for strength, bone health and longevity✨ Nutrition strategies to support energy, muscle and overall health✨ Practical advice you can start using straight away✨ A relaxed environment where you can ask questions and learn from experienced professionals

Our aim is to give women evidence-based, practical information so they feel confident making decisions about their health, not just for now, but for the years ahead.

We're currently looking to take this workshop out into the community. If you're part of a gym, yoga or Pilates studio, sports club, workplace, or any organisation with women who would benefit from learning more about their health, we'd love to hear from you.

If you'd be interested in hosting a Fuelled & Fabulous workshop, or you'd like us to bring it to your community, send me a message. We'd love to help more women feel strong, informed and empowered.
