National Association of Funeral Directors

National Association of Funeral Directors The voice of the profession The NAFD is the voice of the funeral profession.

We are proud to represent the views and interests of funeral directors from the smallest independent to the largest national provider. Our goal is to support our members in caring for the bereaved and the deceased in their care, as well as amplifying our members' voices to ensure that the funeral sector is front and centre in the media and in all of the UK’s Parliaments and Assemblies. The NAFD is

the largest trade association for the UK funeral sector with around 4,000 funeral homes represented alongside hundreds of funeral sector suppliers and international funeral firms. The size and diversity of our membership gives us the authority to represent the sector’s views to the highest levels of Government as well as the media and general public.

Every qualification represents a story of commitment, determination and professional pride.

At NAFD Conference and AGM 2026, we will bring those stories together as we celebrate our newest CertFAA and DipFD graduates.

The Celebrating Success event on Saturday 19th September will recognise the hard work behind every achievement - the hours of learning, the knowledge gained and the commitment to delivering the highest standards within the funeral profession.

It will also be a chance for graduates to share their moment with the tutors, employers, colleagues, family members and friends who have supported them along the way.

This is more than the presentation of a certificate. It is a celebration of progress, ambition and the future of our profession.

Where: East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham
When: Saturday 19 September 2026

Graduates, colleagues and supporters - come and help us make it a celebration to remember. Book now: https://www.nafdconference.co.uk/

Today is Grief Awareness Day.

Grief is not something to hide, hurry or simply “get over”.

There is no right way to grieve, no set timetable and no single path through loss. What matters is that people feel able to talk, remember, ask for help and know they do not have to face it alone.

For NAFD members, supporting grieving people is at the heart of what they do. Listening, guiding and helping families say goodbye with compassion, dignity and care.

But support should not end with the funeral.

Today, check in on someone. Talk about the person who died. Say their name. Share the memories.

Because acknowledging grief does not make it bigger.

It reminds people they do not have to carry it alone.

YOUR MP. YOUR CONSTITUENCY. YOUR VOICE.

The National Association of Funeral Directors is calling on members to help us secure support in Parliament for New Clause 42 of the Health Bill - Funeral Services Regulation.

Working with Mark Sewards MP’s office, the NAFD has helped draft an amendment which would provide an important route towards the independent statutory regulation of the funeral sector that we, our members and others have been calling for.

Now we need MPs to back it and you can help.

Funeral directors serve communities in constituencies across the country. A message from a local business and constituent can add an important voice to the case we are making nationally.

📩 Look out for the email from NAFD, where you will be able to download a ready to use template to send to your local MP. You can personalise it to tell them about your business, the community you serve and why you believe statutory regulation matters.

If you would prefer us to send you the template directly, simply get in touch with National Office.

The NAFD is already making the case in Westminster. Now we are asking members to help us make it in every constituency we can.

Contact your MP. Ask them to support New Clause 42. Help us turn the call for regulation into action.

Your voice matters at the NAFD AGM

The Annual General Meeting is an important opportunity for members to hear directly from the NAFD leadership about the work of the Association, the progress being made and the priorities ahead.

It is also your opportunity to take part, ask questions and contribute to the future direction of your Association.

The NAFD belongs to its members. By participating in the AGM, you help ensure that the decisions we make and the work we prioritise continue to reflect the needs of funeral businesses and the profession we represent.

Join us in Nottingham and be part of the conversation. Book at https://www.nafdconference.co.uk/

✨ Join us for an exclusive tour of The Barrows

Begin your NAFD Conference experience with something truly special.

On Thursday 17th September, we are invited to visit The Barrows at Calverton for a tour of the first and only modern barrow site in the East Midlands, created by A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service in partnership with Sacred Stones followed by refreshments.

Inspired by one of Britain’s oldest funeral traditions, these handcrafted stone barrows offer a beautiful and timeless setting for cremated remains, remembrance and reflection.

🚌 Transport will leave The Orchard Hotel at 3.30pm.

Following the tour, we’ll return to the hotel to continue the evening with relaxed networking, conversation and the chance to catch up with friends and colleagues as Conference gets underway.

If you would like to join us, please register your interest urgently by emailing [email protected].
